Happy Anniversary!

12 Jun

Will there be more highlighted countries?

It was exactly a year ago today that I started this. How time flies! I find it astounding that I had so much to write for the past one year. My girls, code named M1 and M2, have been a constant story source—past and present—and it’s amazing what anecdotes I get from them. Then there’s my apps and games in my devices plus my travels, basically my daily life—happy, silly, frustrating, annoying, you name it—that I felt was worth sharing.

Initially I started out with five days of posts for the weekday. Then once I settled into a comfortable routine, I decided to do four, resting on Wednesdays and the weekends. But of course when I travel, the schedule differs.

As today is yet another milestone, I’d like to humbly thank the many viewers/readers/supporters who visited and visits daily; it makes me proud to say, I have more than a hundred bloggers worldwide following me (on top of my Facebook friends), two shy of the 8,000 view mark (today) from readers in 84 countries in the world! Never in my wildest dreams I thought I could reach these figures.

Happy Anniversary me and many more to come!

Oh No! Not in Synch

This is me at Level 318 on the iPad.

This is also me but at Level 314 in FB on the laptop.

And here I am also at Level 314 on the iPhone5S.

Right after I made it pass Level 314 in Farm Heroes over the weekend, I discovered I was not in synch with all my three devices! Oh no!!! So intent I was at Level 318 (on the iPad), I discovered I couldn’t carry on with the game in Facebook on the laptop or in its app on the iPhone5S because on these two, I am still at Level 314 while on the iPad (where I farm most of the time), I have progressed on to 318. Eeesh.

I’ve tried to connect to Facebook every time I’m at it but to no avail. I hope this problem will be fixed soon. Otherwise, I have to resort to asking for more lives to get pass Level 318.

Staying Connected Anytime, Anywhere

20 May

The mobile phone is truly a wonderful must-have device today, keeping us all connected 24/7. With the variety of smartphones available now and with apps like Viber, WhatsApp, Facetime and iMessage to name the ones I use, we are always connected, be it the normal telco connection or via wifi/3G. During the dinosaur era when I was 17, mobile phones were unheard of and I would be hogging the house phone for hours to continue conversations from school with my best buddies.

But of course, you don’t see that with the children of today, hogging the house phone that is. They tweet, Skype, Instagram or status update on Facebook. However, with more and more social app choices available, it is hard to keep up. All I know is my girls are using something that I am not!

When M1 turned 12, both the hubby and I decided maybe it was time for her to have her very first mobile phone. But being only 12, we felt the phone shouldn’t be very expensive yet has all the cool functions. We got her a Sony Ericsson and put her on a post-paid plan instead of pre-paid. The rational was to monitor the calls instead of capping the usage at a monthly fixed pre-paid cost.

That first year, she must have discovered the wonders of staying connected anytime, anywhere. Ten months into ownership, her bill came to a whopping figure, it shocked the daylights out of dear hubby! The amount was more than what he and me uses—combined—for a month! My goodness, you could see smoke coming out from his ears… The punishment: deductions from the daily allowance to settle the bill.

Since then I guess M1 must have learnt her lesson for whenever I try to call her, it is so difficult to get her. She hardly or never picks up or answers the call promptly and will always go to message, which annoys the daylights out of me. Everytime. Hrmph.

When M2 turned 12 last year, the thought of getting her a mobile phone never crossed our minds after our experience with M1. So we left the situation as it is although she had hinted for a mobile phone every now and then. Whenever the situation arises, and in order to justify her need for a mobile phone, I would gently remind her by asking where is the old Samsung phone that she had inherited from me. Knowing full well the reply would be “I don’t know…” it was a practical reminder to her that she is not ready yet to own a mobile phone.

Undeterred, she found a way to overcome this. Proudly she tells me she has been saving her pocket money to buy one, sharing her dreams to have the latest Samsung models or the Apple iPhone5S. I even encouraged her to keep up the good saving trait. But my child being my child, she daringly pestered me to upgrade my phone to the iPhone5S so that she could inherit my old iPhone4; thus her saved funds can be used for something else! Behind the efforts taken, she was worried the fund was very slow to grow and lamented that by the time it became sufficient, she would be looking at probably, an iPhone10! While I did not budge on the upgrade idea, circumstances had me changing my phone this year. So now I have a spanking new iPhone5S and the old iPhone4 is just laying around, doing nothing but collecting dust waiting for new ownership.

And the lure of owning a phone has cropped up again with the 13-year old M2 who aspires to stay connected anytime anywhere with her friends, more than her parents. It remains to be seen whether the old iPhone4 remains to collect dust or be adopted.

So the house phone still has its usage after all.

Oh No! A Glitch!

16 May

See the up-down scroll arrow, on the left?

up-down arrow appears again at a different spot!

I have come to the end of Biscuit Bungalow. Level 575 was not that difficult. Thinking that I could move on, on the laptop to the next chapter, I thought I would have to ask for tickets but alas, I could not do so!

There seems to be a glitch on the laptop as I cannot click on the ticket platform. Every spot I try to place the mouse at, an up-down scroll arrow appears instead! Oh no!

Luckily the next day, the glitch was fixed on the laptop and with tickets arriving, I have progressed on to Gummy Gardens. Yay.

Suckered In

15 May

I was stuck at Level 566 in Candy Crush for so long that I contemplated giving up. Go back to my retired status from the game. However, the app updated last Thursday for the iPad and I got suckered in yet again.

But amazingly, last weekend proved to be fruitful. The horrible Level 566 was overcomed and I have breezed along on the iPad. I am now at Level 575, the end of the Biscuit Bungalow chapter. Looks like if I want to carry on, it’s back to the laptop as the game has another chapter in Facebook. And I might just do that because Farm Heroes has hit a snag at Level 245. Cuteness is lost with time bombs here! And these time bombs are meaner than those in Candy Crush. I am not amused.

Hitting the Jackpot

9 May

ImageImage

I confess. Besides Candy Crush, Zookeeper Battle and Farm Heroes, I play the Jackpot in Facebook. A year ago, I decided to chase the game’s leaders and try to break into the top 50 in the world. Why? Just to test myself and see if I could do it. I figured if other Facebook users can have their names on the list, why not me? So diligently, I would spin the jackpot every single day without fail. Days when I travel, I’d enlist the girls to help just spin the wheel for me. It’s almost a crazy obsession but the key was to be constant on a daily basis.

So a year ago, I was trailing the 50th player listed by 4 million. Yes, I kept a tracker! A gargantuan task but I have been chipping into the gap consistently, slowly but surely. And you know what? Exactly a year later, two days ago, I broke into the Top 50! Yeehaw….

It feels great when you have achieved something. Persistence does pay.

One Step Ahead

28 Apr

Image

I have been crushing candies on the sly. Heheheh… In between battling zoo animals and getting frustrated by the horrid raccoon and annoying rabbit in Farm Heroes, Candy Crush has provided some comfort.

Three weeks ago, I completed the Jelly Wagon chapter in Facebook on the laptop and had to wait for tickets. Thankfully, one week later, the game updated for the iPad. But I am one step ahead of it—like the previous update—I had completed the chapter before the update came around for the iPad.

So what basically happens on the iPad is just my avatar leapfrogging to the end of the chapter without any candies being crushed. I could back-track to earn more stars or just continue on the laptop.

Back in the Race!

28 Mar

Image

I stopped playing Candy Crush for awhile already and this was evident from my recent golf trip to Chiangmai. Not only did I not crush candies, I paused in my other two games as well (Zookeeper Battle and Farm Heroes Saga).

However, when a fellow candy crusher commented yesterday on one of my post that she could play on beyond Level 530 in Facebook on the laptop, I went in to check. Yes, indeed! A new chapter has started. I guess I am back in the race.

Whoa! What a Move!

17 Mar

Saturday night proved to be fruitful. We came home late after having dinner and spending some quality time with my mother, my sibling and his family. Seated in front of the tv, I felt the urge to do something with my hands, I automatically reached for the laptop and before I realized it, Candy Crush was launched. Since I am still ‘stuck’ at Level 519, why not just try.

And what do you know? I crossed Level 519! As a result, I moved a level up. Feeling pumped with this unexpected progress, I shut down the laptop and went to get my iPad. Maybe tonight Lady Luck is with me, what with just happened on the laptop. Zookeeper Battle and Farm Heroes were neglected as I launched Candy Crush again.

So I started crushing candies at Level 500. This is where all my complicated and non-synching issues began – despite being able to play Level 530 (on the iPad), my avatar has been stuck at Level 500 but I appear at Level 519 in Facebook on the laptop.

It seems that after this latest update (last Friday), Level 500 is easier to play. And true enough! With Lady Luck on my side, I finally overcomed Level 500 and my avatar leap-frogged all the way to Level 530!!! Whoa, what a move!!! I feel elated.

Lookie where I am now!

Looking clear!

Oh… and Ice Cream Caves turned clear.

Level 500 was the key to solving all this non-synching issues and I finally did it. But another waiting period beckons as there are no new chapters to move forth. The game on both the laptop (in Facebook) and iPad are now in synch and me being at the rightful place on both devices but the wait for the saga continues.

It’s So Weird

7 Mar

What do you know? Right after I swore off Candy Crush, declaring to just give up, stop playing, call it quits, the app updated to the Sour Salon chapter on the iPad, to be the same as Facebook on the laptop. Eeesh.

Here’s the weird thing: on the iPad, I see my avatar still stuck at Level 500 yet I am able to play beyond Level 500 because technically I have reached 519 in Facebook on the laptop. Although I have all the stars in the Ice Cream Caves chapter after Meringue Moor, the chapter graphic just does not show on the iPad, it’s a blur. So weird.

And being at Level 519 in Sour Salon on the iPad, I can actually continue what I was doing on the laptop prior to the update, and that is to play on instead of just going with my earlier resolution a day before, which is to just give up. It’s so weird. And without frustration, I have actually progressed onto Level 530, the end of Sour Salon!!! I don’t know how to explain but the pictures say it all…

But wait! Look where I am in FB on the laptop? Level 519!!!

What’s even more weird is that in Facebook on the laptop, I am still at 519!
