In Between 4.45am and 5.30am

7 Jul

It is our last day in Kuching for our final game, so an early morning wake up call is required. No it’s not 4.45am or 5.30am but in between, 5.15am. Rather odd but necessary for breakfast and the bus ride.

Yesterday the weather was extremely hot, the greens dry and the golfing conditions were not the best in comparison to the day before. I guess one can’t have it good all the time. But the company, the food and the camaraderie has been exceptionally good so this makes up for it.

Let’s hope today’s experience will leave us with good memories. Everyone is already talking about planning the next trip!

It Was Worth It

5 Jul

The bus was late. Eeesh. Golfers are the most prompt people when it comes to being on time. We were to play a friendly interclub game with the ladies from Kelab Golf Sarawak. Thankfully, the ride was not too long and in a blink of an eye, KGS appeared.

A little disorganized, we unloaded and got to the changing room. Then before we could even catch our breath and say ‘Hello’ or have a group photo with the host team, we were rushed to the tee box for a two point start at 6.54am.

I must say eventually, the company was great, the golf course excellent and the weather beautiful. One cannot asked for more.

The best part, I played one of my best game ever, coming in as the best nett player and the best player from our side.

I can conclude then that waking up at 4.45am was worth it! Would I do it again? Well, let’s have this never before achievement remain as a highlight and stay as a high for the time being. We have another game tomorrow albeit no more an interclub challenge and tomorrow is another day, another game.

Worse Than 5.30am

5 Jul

When one travels for golf, the normal wake up time is 5.30am. But today, it is worse than 5.30, we had a 4.45am wake up call! My goodness. Why at this horrid ungodly hour?

Well, we have to take in breakfast then the bus ride to the golf course. Today, we tee off at 6.54am, the main reason for waking up so early. The golf course had better be worth it.

Exploring Kuching

4 Jul

It is my first time here in Kuching and boy, it feels so much more humid! Perhaps this is because back home, I am always in my car, zipping from here to there instead of walking.

Dinner was walking distance from the hotel but felt like quite a distance. Must be the humidity…

We went to the famed food court for seafood. Apparently TripAdvisor recommends this place. As there’s so many of us, we took 3 tables and decided every table would eat differently. My table had these choices.

After dinner, we walked it off at the waterfront before calling it an early night as tomorrow it will be an early start.

And Off We Go

4 Jul

The adventure started at the golf club with 14 of us meeting there to take the van while the other 14 made their own arrangements to meet us at the airport. Promptly, the golf bags were loaded and off we went. Traffic was rather heavy but we got there on time.

The gargantuan airport was, well, gargantuan. Indeed, retail shops greeted us first before we found the check in counters. By then the rest appeared. Luckily, there wasn’t much of a crowd for our flight and although time-consuming, things were in order for the check in.

Then everyone decided to track to the Premier Lounge for lunch. Now here, service was a wee bit short-handed as the two personnel had to suddenly deal with 28 guests at once. After a lengthy process, some finally got in while some decided to go elsewhere.

To cut a long story short, departure was on time. The airport was big but I was too busy to ensure I was going in the right direction than to notice all the retail shops. I guess I wasn’t dazzled as I thought I would be. Oh well.

Here I Go Again!

4 Jul

I don’t know why the Whitesnake song, “Here I Go Again” popped into my head as I get ready to go on yet another golf excursion. I suppose the ‘Here I Go Again’ is apt considering this is my third golfing trip this year. Hardly a drifter like the song implied, this time, I am traveling in a big group. 28 people to be precise, myself included, unlike my previous trips with a much smaller group.

The people are not strangers but friends and all members of our golf club and we are off to Kuching, Sarawak. It is rather exciting for me for several reasons.

Firstly, the group. Mostly golf buddies but going for a trip together for the first time. It will be interesting. The second being, to Kuching. I’ve never been to that side of the country before and it will definitely be an eye-opener for me on top of an enriching experience, I hope.

And thirdly, heading out via KLIA2 (instead of KLIA or LCCT), the spanking new gargantuan airport. I hear it’s akin to an airport in a shopping mall with offerings that will dazzle the daylights out of anyone and everyone.

All in all, I am looking forward to the getaway, bonding with my 27 fellow golfers and 3 rounds of golf.

One Step Ahead Again

3 Jul

I think I am experiencing candy withdrawal again! Ever since I completed Wafer Windmill on the laptop and I cannot ask for tickets to go on, I noticed a monster in me has surfaced. On top of feeling irritable, I am also feeling somewhat lost, as if I don’t know what to do! I am usually not like this.

Every morning I open the laptop with hopes that I can click on the ticket platform for help, nothing happens. Aargh… frustration.

And to add salt to the wound (my anguish), Rancid has upped his ante and at his best in Farm Heroes to aggravate me at Level 367. He stumped me at Level 352 and I had to utilize the farm equipments (the plus one, the digger, tractor and farm dog) to beat him. But now, even with farm equipments to aid me, it is not happening, aargh… more frustration!

And this morning, Candy Crush finally updated for the iPad. Triple dose of salt to my woes, this update is of no use to me because all it does is just have my avatar, sitting at 590 previously to leap-frog to Level 605, the end of the chapter! Lately I am always one step ahead in the game before the updates and any updates has rendered my progress useless as I am unable to crush any candies to move forth.

So, the anguish and frustration remains. Aargh…

I Can Math

1 Jul

M1 was happy with her results but feels that there’s room for further improvements especially on those subjects attaining ‘B’. M2, not to be outdone, declared that she did improve but M1 questioned her particularly on the languages.

“What did you get for English?” she challenged, “What did you get for Mandarin?” clearly think she had M2 cornered.

Unperturbed, M2 replied, “I did well in Math. So I speak Math!”

How does one speak Math? I am speechless.

A Promise is a Promise

30 Jun

Exam results are back! As expected, M1 topped her class again. So she’s getting her reward – an Ed Sheeran limited edition album which we had to buy online from his website. A promise is a promise, so how can I break it? She did her part and I have to as well. But I nearly fainted upon learning that the shipping charges cost as much as the album! Well, a promise made has to be a promise fulfilled. The album will be on its way soon after the release.

As for M2, well… This is where I feel caught in a predicament. The 80 percent average was not achieved but it’s a top ten position in class. What do I do? Does she get the phone as originally negotiated? A top ten is pretty good for her ability, an improvement from the last exam but this was not the deal as agreed.

Nonetheless, she wasn’t too upset at not getting the phone but very happy with the top ten and promised to do better in the next exam. That’s the way to go, gal! Let’s hope her promise made will be a promise fulfilled too.

Why Am I Still At It?

I can't send SOS for tickets

I can’t send SOS for tickets!

Level 578 in Candy Crush has been very trying and bordered on being a dreaded task to go through. So why am I still at it? I don’t know, I ask myself that too, constantly. Sometimes my obsession with this game is just… just so obsessive.

Despite the constant frustration, I persisted to battle the ridiculous (for lack of a better word) level of 578. Then amazingly, when I least expected it, I conquered the level. Yay! On a roll, I completed the Wafer Windmill yesterday. I am now just waiting for the new chapter to open up in Facebook, which I don’t understand why I cannot send out help to ask for tickets, when the next chapter is clearly visible on the map. Something is not right. Hmm… I guess I have to be patient.

The recent update makes no difference to me as it opened up only more levels for Dreamworld which I have stopped playing. And all this time, while attempting Level 578 and beyond, I was limited to using the laptop at home because the iPad is still showing me at Gummy Gardens, the previous chapter. So it’s an achievement of sorts given the restricted playing time that I have.
