Times Have Changed

9 Jun

I look at M2 now having her school holidays and can’t help but reminisce what I did during my school holidays when I was 15 dinosaur years ago.

Frankly, I don’t recall doing what she is doing now – sleeping in every morning (Mom would have my hide!), having late brunches, staying indoors as much as possible and surrounded by all the Apple devices: the iPhone to talk to friends on WhatsApp, the iPad for some playtime in between the studying at the dining table in the afternoon, the iPod and MacBook Air for goodness knows what else.

I do remember watching a fair bit of TV, playing with my dog in the garden, climbing my favorite tree, whacking a few tennis balls against the wall of the car porch, talking to imaginary friends and occasionally talking to a real friend on the house telephone. Half the time I was outdoors and never once I sat at the dining table to study!

Yep, times have changed. Gone are the days when one simply enjoys the outdoors, breathe in the fresh air and not worry about keeping up. It was always a happy-go-lucky situation. Nowadays, it’s a constant worry to keep up, staying connected and being indoors!

It’s Been Good

7 Jun

The weather has changed. And this means lazy days ahead, doing nothing but being horizontal and poking away on my iPad to work on my virtual games. I must say it’s been good.

I was champ for the Taffy Treetops chapter of Candy Crush after several missed opportunities in the previous ones. I’ll take whatever comes my way. Now I am at Level 1695 and Level 765 for Soda.

Farm Heroes has also progressed, at 887 now. Hexa Blast has yet to update still, so I just go in to collect the daily coins and lastly, for Monster Busters, I have progressed to Level 464.

Yep. It’s been good.

Two Weeks Break

6 Jun

M2 is having her school holiday break for two weeks. And like the first break, we are staying put. She is having her big important exam this year so we feel any trips taken will only be after the exams.

So far, she has been good at it – going to the mall only once with friends. The other days are spent studying during the daytime but mixing in some pleasure on her iPad or chatting with friends on WhatsApp or with M1 on Skype. A week has passed and another to go. Pretty soon it will be back to school. Can’t believe we are halfway through the year already.

Pretty soon the big exam crunch time will be here! I hope she will be ready for it by then.

Moving Day

2 Jun

It’s great when levels that I have been stagnant at finally has movements. For Candy Crush, I have gone on to Level 1683, Soda, when I least expected it, also moved to Level 756.  Same goes for Farm Heroes – unexpected movement.

Hubby was driving and I was being a farmer on my iPad in the car, poking on the screen mindlessly. There was no strategy I must admit. I was just willing time away because traffic was slow. Suddenly, opportunity presented itself and the next thing I knew, I passed Level 883. Wheee…

New levels for Hexa Blast is still not here yet, so I am taking a breather from it and for Monster Busters, I am waiting for the three keys to unlock the next level onwards. For now, I have completed Level 421.

It’s been good.

Noooo…

26 May

Lately I find my iPad Mini (on OS 9.3.1) very unstable. In the midst of browsing on Facebook or in the thick of a candy game, it would quit the app unexpectedly and stay black for a while. Argh…

What was even more annoying was last night. I was at Level 750 of Candy Crush Soda and gleefully, I managed to pass the level only to have the iPad blacked out. Noooo….

The level that I passed was not captured. Argh…

Numbers are Bad

8 Apr

I can’t believe that I have become so  into the number game, 1010. With a high score of 5708 on my iPad, I have been trying to break my best achievement. Almost every night, I stay up beyond 1.00am playing it, it’s bad!

So much so, I have even forsaken my regular dose of candies, monsters and farm animals. Amazing.

Why Couldn’t I See It

25 Mar

Using the iPad is bad, I think. My eyesight seems to have suffered from the constant use of it with my games and reading or maybe it’s not the iPad but age catching up? Or something else.

I was having problems with my computer yesterday and again, the QuarkXpress that the dinosaur in me is still using could not launch. Whenever this happens and quite frequently I must say, what I normally do is to reinstall the software. It’s complicated to elaborate but I find this the best solution to solve my problem.

The CD is usually on my desk, in its box but for once, it wasn’t inside the box. And for the life of me, I couldn’t see or find the CD. Panic ate into me. Oh no… How am I going to start on my latest book design if I didn’t have my trusty software reinstalled to work with? I am not an InDesign person and try to avoid using it at all cost if possible.

That night I went home and searched for my QXP CD again thinking maybe I could have brought it home. But nope, it wasn’t at home. Not only eyesight has become a problem, the memory too! Oh dear… I couldn’t sleep that night.

The next day when I went into the office, I looked again but casually this time and suddenly, the CD popped out, it was right there! On my desk, under a book. How come I didn’t see it the day before? Am I so blind?

Then again you know that theory when you need something, you just cannot find it. And the more you look, high and low, the harder it is to see the thing. Then after a breather, you look again but not so hard and voila! It appears right before your eyes. I’d like to think it must be this rather than my eyesight and for this reason, I will continue using my iPad for my games and reading. Phew

Eesh! Another Difference!

9 Feb

Did you know Level 1486 of Candy Crush on the iPad is different from the laptop in Facebook? I was stuck at the level for awhile and was taken aback when the same level appeared differently on my different devices. When I YouTubed up Level 1486, results shown were the laptop’s version, not the iPad’s. So I played the iPad’s 1486 most of the time.

Then I made progress and discovered that Level 1486, with an all red jellybean starting board on the laptop is actually Level 1488 on the iPad!

Why does King.com do this? Eesh. Now I am curious as to what Level 1488 on the laptop in Facebook is. But I won’t know until I am back home as I do not have my laptop with me on this trip.

Yes, Progress!

4 Feb

The three-day weekend proved to be fruitful. I met up with old school friends; I finally put up the red cloth in front of the house entrance to usher in the Lunar New Year and I made tremendous progress in my virtual games.

For Candy Crush, I reached Level 1485, surpassing all other candy crushers on my playlist, playing it on the laptop because the iPad has yet to be updated. For Soda, I moved to 615, Jelly at 84 and Monster Blasters at 856. Farm Heroes was super slow. I did not make any progress for the longest time, stuck at Level 854 and managed to only move one level yesterday, playing it on the phone.

Still, it’s progress.

Never Judge

8 Oct

I thought rescuing honey bears would be easier than getting four bottle caps so I have been avoiding Level 495 on my iPad. Because the level is different on the iPad and the laptop, I am limited to just playing on the laptop in the morning before I go to work and in the evening when I get home.

How wrong I have been! When my project finally closed and I took a breather, I thought why not try Level 495 on the iPad. And guess what? After just one attempt, I am through! So never judge the difficulty of the challenge presented.
