The End is Not Nearer

31 Mar

Just when I thought my iPad Mini is nearing its end and usage, it found a new lease in life. Two and a half months ago, I started playing Homescapes on my iPhone XR and have been at it constantly.

One day, to my horror, I discovered this activity drained one per cent off the phone’s battery health. Eeeks! Can’t allow this to happen. So brilliantly, I thought of using the iPad Mini instead for Homescapes and give my phone a breather from constant usage.

The iPad Mini is now experiencing a revival especially with this game despite some occasional instability but generally, the game can be played online and offline as well. It’s okay if I don’t use it to read the news on Safari or even crush candies because after all, the Daily Bonus streak snapped already on Candy Crush Soda.

The end is not nearer for my faithful iPad Mini and my iPhone XR’s battery health is intact. But during this MCO period, there’s a surge in using the phone to keep up with news and social media while the iPad Mini is purely for Homescapes. I am at Level 1783 now and expect to move up to pass another day in quarantine.

The End is Nearer

10 Mar

You know how apps are automatically updated? Of course this is if the device is set up for it to do so. Over one mid-December weekend, something unusual happened with my iPad Mini. It was updating Candy Crush Saga in the background whilst I was playing the Soda version.

Suddenly the game quit unexpectedly and a black screen with the Apple logo appeared. Uh oh. Then the next thing I knew, the Candy Crush Saga app disappeared! Is this a sign that the end is nearer for the iPad Mini?

I had to do a complete shut down, wait ten seconds then switched on the device again before the app appeared. Haish… why do this to me?

Seriously methinks the Mini wants to retire for good.

The Streak Snapped, Part 2

14 Feb

It was only a matter of time because I’m bored by the mundane commitment. The Candy Crush Soda Daily Bonus on the iPad Mini finally snapped too. Three weeks ago, it snapped on the iPhone XR.

After being at it for 1267 days, I was taken aback when on Wednesday morning, it was back to Day One. Oh… I guess I had forgotten to check in on Tuesday morning.

Oh well. Now that this mindless pursuit is no longer a pursuit, there’s a sense of relief. I had wanted to give up after passing 1200 Days but I kept at it, just to see how long I could go on. Well, it has ended.

So with this end, there’s no more Candy Crush Saga, Soda or Daily Bonus to tie me down mindlessly.

The Streak Snapped

20 Jan

It finally happened, the Candy Crush Soda Daily Bonus continuous streak finally broke! It was Saturday morning and as always, after waking up, I’d pick up my devices for the morning routine.

The morning routine being launching both the Cat Condo games to collect my millions and releasing the cats from the cages, then Homescapes then Soda for the Daily Bonus before reading the news. Somehow the day before I didn’t get to Candy Crush Soda on the iPhone XR, only the iPad Mini and I didn’t even realized I missed it out.

When I launched Candy Crush Soda on Saturday morning, I was on Day 1! Wow, after 1243 days at it constantly, the chain finally broke. Luckily on the iPad Mini, it was still captured at 1244 days. I now wonder if I should still go on with it. Hmm…

As of today, the streak on the iPhone XR is a lowly Day 3 while on the iPad Mini, it goes on for Day 1246.

1200 Days

6 Dec

The unthinkable has happened. Yesterday I reached 1200 consecutive days on collecting the Daily Bonus in Candy Crush Soda on both the iPhone XR and iPad Mini! That’s one crazy dedication. Did you know 1200 days is equivalent to three years and 104 days?

I thought I would stop after reaching Day 1000 but I didn’t and just ploughed on endlessly with this pursuit. I don’t even know why. Just…

Although my iPad Mini has been pretty useless lately to do other things, it is certainly good for only this one thing and that is to collect the Daily Bonus.

Do I still want to go on? Is there even a need to do so after this ridiculous feat? We shall see.

The End of the Road?

15 Nov

Last Saturday at 5.30pm, my iPad Mini – a first gen unit and still on iOS9.3.5 (because it cannot update any further) suddenly died despite having about 50 percent of battery life left. It just went flat when I tried to turn it on. Zero power, nada, zilch, empty…

Within two days, this faithful device of mine pulled this stunt twice – drained to the core without any activity despite having battery life to spare. It has never done this before, so I don’t know why this happened. I’ve had it for seven years and that’s a long time.

I plugged it in to charge (and yes I did turn on the power) but it didn’t seem to respond. Oh dear… I hope it can be revived.

img_6209

So now I am sort of iPad-less and I can’t decide if I want to buy a replacement. Then again do I actually need one? As the iOS keeps updating and newer devices flood the market each year, my poor old device can’t keep up and has been left behind.

It’s always quitting unexpectedly on me when I am in the thick of a strategic move especially Candy Crush Soda or it’s spinning endlessly when I try to read the news on Safari. And apps like Skype and Netflix cannot be used anymore because they no longer support older devices.

So I’ve stopped bringing my iPad Mini to the office because of these issues. The performance or lack of it has been very glaring compared to my iPhone XR which serves me well for all my needs.

But I just hope the unfortunate power issue was just a one (or should I say two)-off occurrence and won’t be repeated. I’d have to monitor and hope it’s not the end of the road for my iPad Mini.

What’s After A Trillion, Part 2

27 Aug

img_4699

Move over Candy Crush, Cat Condo has taken over my life! At every available moment, I find myself playing Cat Condo as crushing candies is so passé now. I anticipated correctly last Friday that I did not have to wait long to find out what would happen if I reached beyond a trillion.

On Sunday, I was all excited when I reached 999t. And soon after, I hit a quadrillion in my fortune and true enough, a letter ‘q’ appeared after the numbers making me rich beyond imagination. And now that I have reached this figure, I will just continue to build the condo for my felines and try to unveil the remaining ten species on the list.

Beyond 1000 Days

22 Jul

I must say I didn’t let go of the Daily Bonus trek when I was traveling to the US. It’s amazing that the chain didn’t break for both the iPad Mini and iPhone XR even with all that different time zones when we were flying. But sadly, the chain broke for the iPhone5S because I did not bring the phone along as a spare. There was no need for it especially when it had all this battery problems.

As for the Daily Bonus pursuit, basically all I did was checked both devices after 24 hours when there was wifi connection. Sure enough, the chain continued! Woo hoo…

So as of today, both are on Day 1064. Crazy….

Long Long Night

12 Jun

It rained and poured like crazy thus we had to leave home a little bit earlier to beat the traffic to get to the airport. What would normally take slightly under an hour took us an hour and a half.

But we had to leave early because sometimes when the timing is off by a mere five minutes, the consequences are very stressful. In this case, anticipating the traffic heading towards the airport.

But luckily we managed to arrive early despite a 45-minute crawl at one stretch on the highway. Oh well, we didn’t mind. Better early than late. We waited for an hour before the counters opened for check-in. And within a short time, we were checked in and all set!

We then went to the Premium Lounge to have a light dinner and a nice cold Carlsberg, chilling for an hour before heading to the gate. Everything was smooth sailing.

However, departure was slightly delayed because the runway was congested and we took off at 11.48pm, a 28-minute delay. We are finally on our way.

Within a short while, dinner was served! My goodness, talk about a midnight snack, it was a hearty Briyani Chicken rice. I ate whatever I could, which was not much, and tried to sleep. Not easy though.

Throughout the long long night, it was very uncomfortable. The seats were very narrow. I turned left, I turned right and couldn’t find a comfortable position. Needless to say, I hardly slept and we have another ten plus hours journey to go after the transit.

I dozed in and out of sleep. Somehow time went by pretty fast and soon, day was breaking and I couldn’t sleep anymore. My watch showed 7.45am, KL’s local time. And the first thing that came to my mind was my Candy Crush Soda! Hah! Still can’t let go.

The phone and the iPad could register Day 1024 because both are in flight mode and not updated with the time zone that we are in. Heheh… maybe the next leg, I won’t be so lucky.

Next I checked my MiBand2 and I actually only had 40 minutes of deep sleep and five hours and 21 minutes of light sleep. Yeah, I’m tired.

As I am jotting my thoughts now, the screen is showing another 23 minutes to arrival. Yay.

Be Silly or Be Happy

11 Jun

Today’s the day we leave! But there are worries, silly ones and several of it…

Silly #1: my cocoon is still hanging on the front tree and it’s been seven weeks since the giant caterpillar morphed into it; way overdue from what I checked online to be at this stage. Why is the moth not emerging? Is the constant rain stunting its metamorphosis? Is it even still alive and okay? I dare not climb up the ladder to check because it’s way too high. Whatever it is, looks like we will miss the moth emerging from the cocoon if it does decide to come out during our time away.

It’s nice in here, I’m not ready for the world

Silly #2: my 1000 and more Days trek on the Daily Bonus for Candy Crush Soda on the retired iPhone5S will be broken because I am not bringing the phone along. And will the iPhone XR and iPad Mini have the trek broken too being in different time zones? I told myself I should stop this obsession but I just can’t shake it off. Silly.

Day 1016 for the iPhone5S and Day 1023 for both the iPad Mini and iPhone XR

Silly #3: will Rooney, official pet number one miss us?

img_2398

Should I chew on it or not? Hmm…

Silly worries aside, there are some happy reasons too…

Happy #1: the pineapple in the garden. It’s been more than two years that hubby’s been taking care of it, and thank goodness it decided to ripen on time before we leave. Harvested last Friday, the fruit of labor and love weighed a whopping two kilos! Needless to say, the juicy and home-grown pineapple was thoroughly enjoyed.

Juiciest pineapple ever!

Happy #2: the constant rain seems to be good for the habanero plant for it has thrived well and we had a bumper harvest. So much chillies! I ate a little on Wednesday night and oh my goodness, almost died from the fiery burn. This batch is super duper spicy.

The spicy level of the reds win hands down over the greens

Happy #3: we will be meeting up with M2 in Amsterdam! Yes, our baby will fly tomorrow from Ireland to meet us at Schiphol. And she will miss a few days of Summer classes which unfortunately can’t be helped. I feel it’s important for her to attend her only sister’s Commencement ceremony, hence the plan as such.

Happy #4: we will finally be seeing M1. The last time the family unit was complete was when she came back for Christmas in 2017, so that’s like a year and a half since we last saw our firstborn in person. The weekly Skype video sessions do not count. Can’t wait. A 12 hours and 40 minutes flight for the first leg, then a four-hour transit before the second leg of 10 hours and 17 minutes flight (hopefully no delays) before the family will be whole again. Yay!!!

I guess with the happy reasons outweighing the silly ones, I shouldn’t be too silly and just be happy.
