11.11.11

12 Nov

Sunday was a significant day with the date being 11.11. While there was this HUGE Singles Day online sales with record numbers being achieved globally, it was a significant day for us for a different reason. Our beloved Official Pet number one turned 11, hence 11.11.11.

What a journey it has been for us with Rooney, our English Bulldog, official pet, senior citizen of the house and shortest member of the family.

He may have the grumpiest face, the loudest and most insistent bark on the street, the most stubborn streak surpassing even me, I can go on but we love him all the same!

Happy Birthday and stay healthy, my silly grumpy boy.

A Case of Too Many?

4 Sep

This September month has become a case of too many holidays. Honestly, I am caught off guard with the realization. On one hand I appreciate a holiday every now and then, too many in succession is very disruptive. And these are replacement holidays! Meaning when they fall on a Sunday, the next day Monday is a replacement holiday.

Next week, Monday is a replacement holiday because Sunday is officially the King’s birthday. And it just so happen that Tuesday is also a public holiday, Awal Muharram; so that’s like two extra days off, making the work week only a three-day working week.

I am not even looking at it from the angle of having a long four-day weekend because being caught off guard, we didn’t plan ahead to go away. Then again, we can’t go anywhere because M2 is having her trial exams in the midst of all this holidays.

Then the following week, déjà vu. Monday is again a replacement holiday because Sunday is Malaysia Day to make that week a four-day work week.

I feel this is a tad too many and can either make one stressed because of the disrupted work (or exam) schedule ahead or become lazy because there’s too many breaks. Sigh… I can’t decide if I am looking forward to it or not.

Another Year Goes By

31 Aug

2018 seems to be breezing by very fast. Another year goes by, another wedding anniversary milestone to celebrate. Sometimes I forget how many years we have been married, pausing to mentally count. What a dinosaur I am!

No words can describe the journey that we’ve had together and I cherish all the moments, good and bad. Happy 23rd Anniversary to us! A toast to many more years ahead. May we stay healthy and happy through thick and thin.

Weekend of Champions

30 Jul

I have amazing girlfriends and they inspire me with their grit, mental strength and focus. Over the weekend, three amazing women came out tops in their respective activities, two in golf and one in an ultra-trail race.

Girlfriend #1 defended her Champion title in the Women’s category in her golf club’s Annual Championship, Girlfriend #2 was the Nett Champion amongst men in a golf Invitational tournament while Girlfriend #3 romped to fourth placing in her category in the 100km race. A weekend of champions indeed! Well done, girlfriends, you ladies are simply amazing.

700 Days

24 Jul

This is a crazy milestone and I’m not even sure why I am keeping up with it. Sometimes I can’t even play the game on my iPad Mini because the device has been unstable but I can launch the app just to get this.

For the record, I have kept up with the Daily Bonus for Candy Crush Soda for a span of 700 days; I think it is rather mind boggling, almost two years.

I started out on both the iPad and iPhone but somehow, on the phone, the chain has been broken several times. However on the iPad, it’s still going strong. So for every 100 days, you’d see a post on this crazy number.

My Baby’s All Grown Up

2 Jul

Last Saturday my M2 turned 17! My goodness, where did time go? Wasn’t it just yesterday when I was still breast-feeding her? And here she is all grown up, 17 years old. Sniffle…

We celebrated with Mom with a simple dinner and the most awesome Lava Cake.

We are truly blessed that our youngest is turning out so sweet, sensible and responsible especially towards her obligations (education), following her sister’s footsteps. Although proud parents we are of her, she is still our little baby. Happiest happy birthday indeed, my all grown up baby. Love you to the moon and back!

The Fifth Anniversary

12 Jun

Five years ago on this day, I started this blog of mine and five years has gone by and it is still going strong. What a milestone. Every day except Wednesday and weekends there’d be an entry, and more often if I travel. I have been very disciplined about it.

Life is simply amazing to give me so much to write about. While mostly it’s happy and memorable experiences worthy to share, there were sad and painful moments too, even fear at some point. Such is life.

Humbly, I’d like to say “Thank you” to all my readers out there and “Happy 5th Anniversary” to me and my blog. It means a lot to me that people, friends and strangers from all over the world, have an interest in what I have to say about my children, my travels and my life.

A Proud Stain

17 May

A week has passed since the 14th General Elections and the index finger that was marked with indelible ink still has some leftover stain. Initially, the finger was a light lavender shade when I left the polling station after voting. Then as time passed that day, it became darker to the point of looking grotesque and gangrenous.

I tried cleaning off the stain by combining two drops of Clorox with some laundry detergent because a girlfriend said this worked, and it did but not the whole lot came off.

So I let it be, ignored the color and just used my hands normally the next few days. I must say the friction of my daily actions did most of the work. There’s no need then to Clorox my finger further.

However until today, the stain on the fingernail is still there. It’s okay, I am proud of the stain, a reminder of that historic day when the course of Malaysia has been changed for the better.

A Historic Day, Part 3

14 May

It’s a new beginning for the country as the nation goes back to work today after an emotionally charged five days stretch over the election drama. I have never been so engrossed with headlines and news prior and the last five days, it felt like an addiction. With the outcome and measures taken after the stunning result, it’s like a sense of liberation for everyone.

Now that the dust has settled and fear subsided somewhat, I should go back to my life – work, the home front, carving, gym and golf. We all need to go back to normalcy and routine needs to go on as we entrust our wise 92-year old Prime Minister to make right and steer the country towards greatness again.

A Historic Day, Part 2

11 May

We are still trying to absorb the unexpected results of our nation’s 14th General Elections. There were a lot of emotions, mostly frustration and anxiety the last two days because the whole nation was kept waiting and waiting for the final results. In the end, the masses’ wish for change came through and it was as if a new nation was born. Once it became official that there will be a change in government, euphoria, joy, relief and mostly positive vibes was all over social media.

Our 7th Prime Minister, finally sworn in on Thursday, at 92 years old is also the oldest democratically-elected one in the world! Amazing. I say orange is out, old is the new black.

We are also trying to get used to the unexpected five-day break, starting with Wednesday being a public holiday to go to the polls, the two-day declared holiday after the polls for the unexpected win and the weekend. Suddenly I find myself disoriented and quite unsure what to do.

I couldn’t carve nor had any desire to go out because the polling results was too gripping and important. Time is really the essence to test our patience and trust.

Now that this momentous event is over, we are looking forward to better days and years ahead. Malaysians, I am proud we stood as one to make the change!
