What an Ungodly Hour to Wake Up!

20 Mar

I had to force myself to sleep, what with me being a night owl. I read somewhere two days ago that creative people are night owls with the tendency to always sleep late. So if every night, I hit the sack at 1.00am or thereabouts, indeed I must be creative and a certified night owl. Going to bed at 11.30pm was tough after my usual nightly routine of Zookeeper and Farm Heroes. I did not even crush any candies…

Seven minutes before my alarm went off at 3.00am, I woke up. Somehow the body always manages to stir whenever there is a need to wake up early. But the only times I wake up this early is to catch an early international flight or for a morning tee off. But for golf, it would be at least 5.30am, giving me a couple more hours of rest. Either situation, the body automatically wakes up without the alarm.

The roads were devoid of vehicles so it was quite nice to step on the pedal to enjoy the sheer driving pleasure of the ultimate driving machine. We got to our friend’s place in no time and with the van arriving simultaneously, the oversized golf bags and luggages were quickly loaded up and we were on our way to the airport.

Things were a blur at the airport. You cannot imagine the number of people traveling at this ungodly hour! LCCT was packed. But then again, with a tagline like “Now Everyone Can Fly” the KL base of AirAsia definitely had people of all kinds flying.

I guess all this is worth the ungodly wake up hour as we will play our first game upon arrival. Slated for a noon tee off at Chiangmai Inthanon Golf Resort, I just hope the weather will be nice.

I should attempt to catch 40 winks on board. Stay tuned…

Whoa! What a Move!

17 Mar

Saturday night proved to be fruitful. We came home late after having dinner and spending some quality time with my mother, my sibling and his family. Seated in front of the tv, I felt the urge to do something with my hands, I automatically reached for the laptop and before I realized it, Candy Crush was launched. Since I am still ‘stuck’ at Level 519, why not just try.

And what do you know? I crossed Level 519! As a result, I moved a level up. Feeling pumped with this unexpected progress, I shut down the laptop and went to get my iPad. Maybe tonight Lady Luck is with me, what with just happened on the laptop. Zookeeper Battle and Farm Heroes were neglected as I launched Candy Crush again.

So I started crushing candies at Level 500. This is where all my complicated and non-synching issues began – despite being able to play Level 530 (on the iPad), my avatar has been stuck at Level 500 but I appear at Level 519 in Facebook on the laptop.

It seems that after this latest update (last Friday), Level 500 is easier to play. And true enough! With Lady Luck on my side, I finally overcomed Level 500 and my avatar leap-frogged all the way to Level 530!!! Whoa, what a move!!! I feel elated.

Lookie where I am now!

Looking clear!

Oh… and Ice Cream Caves turned clear.

Level 500 was the key to solving all this non-synching issues and I finally did it. But another waiting period beckons as there are no new chapters to move forth. The game on both the laptop (in Facebook) and iPad are now in synch and me being at the rightful place on both devices but the wait for the saga continues.

A Ridiculous Quest

11 Mar

I have been kept busy lately with my three games – Candy Crush, Farm Heroes and Zookeeper Battle. In between, of course, there’s work at the office, golf and minding the children. Throw in my reading… busy indeed.

While I have been frustrated by Candy Crush and Farm Heroes, Zookeeper Battle makes up for the frustration and balances up the agony because it’s all about skills and speed to battle. Also it does not have pretentious cute animals that pull at your heart; they are simply either strong or weak, no deceiving characters.

But why am I still crushing candies eventhough I have declared I have retired? Well, it is only to ‘fix’ the problem in hand, appearing at Level 519 in Facebook on the laptop but being stagnant and sitting at Level 500 on the iPad yet playing at Level 530. Something is not synching right, so I have to right it.

While waiting for lives, I read or alternate between these three games and still mind the children. However, I find the latest quest (Level 129) in Farm Heroes ridiculous! How does one collect 90 water droplets, 90 carrots, 90 apples AND 90 sunshines in 9 moves? Forget them cropsies looking cute, this ridiculous quest is just unachievable.

I Couldn’t Resist

13 Feb

Last Friday, I came home from my dinner and grabbed the laptop. The Candy Crush tickets came and I am onwards to the next chapter! Am I coming out of retirement?

Well… I moved only 3 levels, stuck at Level 518 currently, so it’s hard to say I am un-retiring but I just couldn’t resist. Put it this way, Farm Heroes has hit a snag at an impossibly ridiculous challenge at Level 99 and I needed an outlet to channel my fighting spirits. Maybe I should just go trounce some zoo animals instead.

There’s Nothing to Play!

6 Feb

Ever since my retirement from Candy Crush, I find that there’s nothing to play on the iPad! If not for my Zookeeper Battle, the offerings just do not appeal to me.

Even the latest from King.com, Farm Heroes Saga, which I thought could get me hooked does not have the same appeal as Candy Crush. I suspect this is due to the fact that I was stuck at Level 80 for the longest frustrating time. It was just impossible to overcome the challenge at that level. Well, when one becomes discouraged and frustrated, the charm is lost, no matter how cute the characters are.

So I looked and tried to find something that can occupy my time, otherwise my faithful iPad Mini will be rendered useless! Maybe I should go back to reading my Nora Roberts…

Farming is Fun!

Call me Farmer Ange!

Ahh… Farming is so calming with the cute cropsies (and occasional animals) in Farm Heroes Saga although initially, the game plan looked complicated but I got the hang of it. Even Rancid the Raccoon is way much better than those darn zippy tornadoes in Candy Crush.

The cropsies (vegetables and fruits) all have big adorable eyes that tug at your heart and they are far more appealing than striped candies or wrappers; I’d say the cute animals in Zookeeper Battle are given a run for their money in the cute appeal category. Coming from a retired professional candy crusher and avid zookeeper, it’s pretty amazing.

Could this be the beginning of another addiction? By the way, I peeked into Candy Crush on Facebook and nope, still no update.

Back to the Pre-Candy Crush Era

20 Jan

Before I became a professional candy crusher, I was a farmer. I was so into farming, managing three farms simultaneously: Tap Ranch (renamed and upgraded to Dream Ranch HD now), Tap Ranch Lite and Snowy Tap Ranch, on my first gen iPad. All very different from Zynga’s FarmVille which was very popular then in Facebook. These farms appealed to me because I did not have to play online or rely on others to send me crops and things. In other words, I was a full-time independent farmer. At least that was what the girls labeled me, a farmer.

Whenever I was engrossed in the iPad, they will dutifully not disturb me because I was farming and concentration was needed to tend to my alfalfa and other crops as well as my animals. Ah… Those were the days.

Then Candy Crush struck and my status changed (I was a professional candy crusher). The farms were neglected and ignored as I crushed my way to the top of the candy saga. But my status changed again (I am now a retired professional candy crusher) at the strike of midnight into the new year. Last Friday, I downloaded yet another game from King.com to occupy my time because suddenly, I stopped reading (I don’t know why), Zookeeper Battle has not been holding my attention as much and I had deleted Papa Pear because of launch issues.

A sense of deja vu has struck because it’s a farm app: Farm Heroes Saga. Another saga to march on, like Candy Crush, but a farm, thus making me a farmer again.

Maybe I should change my status again to be a full-time farmer this time? Hmm…

Candy Withdrawal

6 Jan

Even since I completed Candy Crush at the end of last year and officially retired from it on January 1st, I feel as though I am experiencing some withdrawal symptoms. For five consecutive days, I have not played the game in Facebook on the laptop; although I still go in to help my fellow candy crushers by sending them lives and tickets, this does not count as playing. Even on the iPad, Dreamworld has lost its appeal. So what I am doing to occupy my time? I have been reading as there’s nothing else to play (besides Zookeeper Battle) before I go to sleep!

The last few nights, I decided to give my favorite author, Nora Roberts, my devotion again and have been reading the MacGregor series online into the wee hours of the night. Now I don’t know if this is good or not because in the mornings, I wake up with a splitting headache from a lack of deep sleep.

As a result, I feel grumpy. And irritated. And tired. Can’t be Nora’s fault since her books are always so captivating. Definitely withdrawal symptoms from lack of candies. Hrmph.

A Belated Gift

27 Dec

It’s Boxing Day and I had gone to play golf in the morning with the hubby. And obviously I did not open the laptop to play Candy Crush considering it’s an early morning tee off and we shouldn’t be late. But for the record, I have been stuck at Level 500 and it has been most frustrating. These pass few days, being the Christmas holidays with the festive mood, I am hardly working so I have been trying to conquer this level at every opportunity available.

Fast forward to the late afternoon. I came home from my golf outing and routine was normal, playing five unsuccessful rounds of Candy Crush on the laptop before moving back to the iPad for Zookeeper Battle and checking emails. Everything was normal; then in the evening, I reached for the laptop again and launched the game for my usual five attempts at Level 500 but suddenly, I find myself leap-frogged to Level 501!!! Surprised, shocked, taken aback, I couldn’t believe it!

Image

Notice the non-star at Level 500 and question marks for tickets?

Eh? What’s going on? I have been stuck at Level 500 for sometime but out of the blue or is it out of pity, I have been gifted with this! I have gone on to Level 501 without completing Level 500 and without even asking for tickets to go on to this latest chapter, Ice Cream Caves.

A belated Christmas gift? A computer glitch? A loyalty reward? Whatever it is, gee, thanks King.com! I just hope you don’t reverse what you just did for I have gone on to Level 506. A gift’s a gift, no taking back, belated as it may be.

Done with Candy Crush?

17 Dec

Yesterday, I reached Level 500 of Candy Crush in Facebook and should be completing it anytime soon. And for Dreamworld, its subset game, on the same day too I completed Level 65 and now, have to wait for the update. But do I want to? Does this mean I am officially retiring from the game?

The end is here

To go on or not??

Then again, I do hope an update will be soon or else I have nothing to play! I can’t seem to get into the Papa Pear Saga, it’s just not the same. As for Zookeeper Battle, I have also lost some steam in my efforts after completing my 3000th battle. Sigh.
