The Shoe Queen

30 Dec

Within three days, I bought two pairs of shoes yet I remarked that hubby was more of a ‘Shoe Queen’ than me simply because his shoes were cluttering the shoe closet and there was just no more space for my newbies to reside.

I can’t help it, they were on sale!

On Saturday night, I was looking at the shoe closet assessing the space, trying to figure out where to fit in my latest Rockport shoe and yet another pair of (Footjoy) golf shoes but men shoes were just hogging the space. Therefore, I commented “Aiyoh! Daddy is such a Shoe Queen!” to M1, who was seated nearby listening to the drama.

M1 sniggered at that comment; hubby denied the accusation and told me to count. So I did.

“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine! You have nine pairs of shoes in here!” I said incredulously.

“Wait… You count yours!” He shot back. And I did.

“One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Heels do not count.” I said.

M1 was laughing non-stop and discreetly muffling the sound.

“How can you not count heels?” he demanded. “Aren’t they shoes too?”

Well, I guess if I do include them plus some from the next closet plus the rest outside, I guess I am the undisputed Shoe Queen. But still… he runs a close second.

A Happy Camper

13 Nov

Satisfied with my purchases today, yes, I am a happy camper! The shopping outing was not too long, so it wasn’t an ordeal and the nice weather beckons.

By 1.45pm we decided to go back to the hotel and just lounge by the poolside (with a margarita or beer in hand) before the function tonight.

Sunny Skies

13 Nov

It’s a beautiful day today with the sun out and the pool inviting! Thoughts of sipping a margarita by the poolside is very appealing over gulping down a beer…

But this will have to wait. We are going to the mall again! It will not be a long outing but just to get something in mind. Hopefully, Takashimaya has it.

Will come back early to enjoy the pool!

I Survived Shopping Again!

12 Nov

A different country but the activity is the same – shopping. Not my cup of tea, yet I do it whenever I travel.

In Singapore this week, we were in Vivo City for about two hours then we hopped on the MRT to Orchard and ended up in ION Orchard. Let me tell you, I have a fear of this mall. Why? You might want to know… well, we can never find the exits… The layout of this mall is too complicated for us!

Thankfully, we managed to find our way to Wheelock Place, crossed the road to Shaw House and then to Tangs, covering these few malls in the few hours until we couldn’t walk anymore and had to take a cab back to the hotel.

I bought something that I don’t normally buy: a dinner dress! (Faint)… Tell me about it but it’s a pretty thing.

So, am I surviving shopping? Maybe…

Are We There Yet?

9 Nov

Now I know how my girls or children feel when the journey seems an eternity. Two hours on from the Floating Market, we are still hurtling along the elevated highway to return to Bangkok for lunch and some more shopping.

Thank goodness I managed to catch up on some sleep. The tummy is growling and a good Thai lunch seems like a good idea. I hope it will materialize.

It was a decent lunch, at the food court in the mall. We were given four hours before leaving for the airport. Four hours! What am I gonna do? I am not a shopaholic. Oh well, might as well try…

Two hours later.

I feel so tired. It is that theory of being in an enclosed place and a lack of oxygen, that’s holding true again for me. You certainly can’t find me in this similar situation on a golf course…

I Survived Shopping!

9 Nov

Amazingly, I survived three hours at Thaniya Plaza. I even bought some stuff, mostly golf related things but I must admit by 5.30pm, I was thirsty for a cold drink and joined the two gentlemen from our group for several refreshing Singha draught.

By seven, everyone had a bag or two or more in their hands. With purchases made and hearts contented, we wanted to make our way to Mango Tree. But a wrong turn led us to the Boys of Bangkok street. Mmm…

Bars and pretty boys await. Uh-huh, I think it’s not the place in mind!

Finally we found Mango Tree. Too tired and hungry, I did not take any pictures of the food.

After dinner, fueled and reenergized, the big debate was whether to have a massage before a shower or vice versa. Yes, we are all having a good time to cap the day.

In the end, I think nobody went for a massage. Too tired and contented, it’s time to pack and reset the mind to go home.

Kuta is So Happening!

11 Oct

Flight out of KLIA was delayed 20 minutes but we arrived in DPS on time. The new airport is very modern but lacking Balinese elements I must say. But maybe these elements will show up after the renovation is complete. Leaving the airport grounds had us hitting heavy traffic, typical of Bali. In other words, traffic is a snarl.

Our ride is a Toyota Avanza, smelling of pandan leaves, home made air fragrance! Nice.

So we are checked in at Mercure Kuta Bali, smack right in the happening spot. Gonna take a quick shower and hit the town shortly!

We Don’t Like Shopping

24 Sep

Unlike other female species, I am considered an unusual one for I don’t like shopping. Put me in a mall for three hours or more, browsing through things or whatever, I find it quite an ordeal. Breathing becomes difficult as I always argue it is the lack of oxygen with so many people inside the enclosed building that causes this discomfort. And walking becomes taxing when the lack of oxygen kicks in, causing pain in the joints and legs.

Really strange coming from someone who can traverse almost halfway around the globe and walk 8km throughout the city of Paris or about 6km to 8km on a golf course anytime!

So when it comes to shopping, thankfully, my girls are like me and share the same sentiments on the breathing and walking issues. We hardly go shopping and will only do so if necessary.

Never Go Shopping with Your Sports Car Wannabee

23 Sep

This is totally not related to my usual M1 M2 stories but I just had to share. It was a typical weekend shopping and eating out several months ago. We went to IKEA and as we were heading out from the parking lot, we saw this dude with his low suspension impressive 19 inch rim sports car wannabee exiting as well.

He was carefully trying to maneuver his wannabee over the hump as he exited the carpark. Going at an angle slowly, then reversing, then trying again. Obviously with a full load of passengers, he was unsuccessful.

We watched with fascinated amazement and disbelief as he then ordered all passengers down—grandma, wife and kids included—to just step out from the vehicle so that he could cross the hump! They all obliged and then climbed backed in once the vehicle crossed the hump.

I must say the three cars we have, one of them is a low profile mini sports car. But as much as we love it, I do not subject my mother to sit in it for its low profile attribute just does not bode well with the elderly. And the sentiments are reciprocal, she doesn’t even want to get in. You can then be assured I will never go shopping with my mom in my sports car and subject her to get down in an attempt to cross a speed hump.

I think to avoid such a scene, never go shopping with the family in your low suspension sports car wannabee if you can help it. It’s just way too embarrassing, even to watch.

So Predictable

17 Sep

I do not like to promise my girls things whenever we have conversations in order to avoid disappointments or having promises broken. Instead I keep the situation open by saying,“We shall see…” so that I am not held ransom on my word and they have their expectations hopeful; and if circumstances are not favorable, the disappointment is not so painful. Now this is different from the ‘Carrot Program‘.

Conversations revolving the “We shall see…” are usually pertaining to buying ice cream, books and snacks – daily needs and not significant rewards or trips like those under the ‘Carrot Program‘.

M1 and M2 has been drilled enough with this that whenever when they ask for something, before I could open my mouth to state the obvious, they’d go, “We know… We know… We shall see…”

Is it good to be predictable?
