My New Game

12 Jan

Soon after deleting Cat Condo II from my iPhone XR, I was experiencing a slight withdrawal symptom! It felt odd that when I woke up, I did not have to check on my cats. And this feeling continued throughout the day when there was no alert on my Apple Watch Series 5 to collect my rewards or check what my cat brought back from its adventure. Am I missing the game to the point that I felt incomplete?

So I decided to fix this by downloading a new game to take my mind of Cat Condo II. My new game to play now is Water Sort Puzzle, besides Homescapes. It’s not mundane or time-wasting like Cat Condo II. Although Water Sort Puzzle looks simple, it requires a lot more logical thoughts to advance.

The idea is to sort colored water in test tubes until all the same colored water is collected. There is no time limit for each round, no race to reach the end, nor a need to collect rewards. You play at your own pace. There are also no reminders to check-in, and I play the game whenever I feel like it. I just completed Level 100.

Goodbye Cat Condo II

5 Jan

Over the weekend, I deleted the Cat Condo II app from my iPhone XR. After playing it for so long, I finally managed to collect all 32 species of cats available. In the process, I amassed a fortune, just like the original Cat Condo game.

All the cats in Cat Condo II
Every species on the board plus some extras and space are still available!

I was contemplating deleting the app from my phone a few weeks ago. After all, it’s a mundane time-wasting game, and I did delete the original Cat Condo game when I managed to collect all the species available.

So with the game gone, I don’t have anything mundane to turn to because of late, I’ve been playing Homescapes on the phone, and this game is just too time-consuming. I have given up playing Homescapes on the iPad Mini because the device cannot support the app anymore. Sigh. I need to find a new mundane game soon.

The Unstable iPad

21 Jul

My iPad Mini has been acting up again. These days I use it mostly for the game Homescapes and it has not been stable. Sometimes when I try to play a level after launching the app, it’d just quit the game.

So much so, I have to resort to doing a hard reset, which is just about several times at each attempt to play. And every time after I do this, it does not help the situation.

The worse part of my Homescapes woes is that the game is not synced with the iPhone XR! The levels on the phone are not updated to the more advanced levels on the iPad Mini, I don’t know why… sigh.

A Totally New Gnome

8 May

I have stopped carving Whales for almost a month already for a couple of reasons. Number one reason being no more correct sized Meranti wood. However it’s not that I have zero wood supply anymore, it’s just that there’s a lot of odd-sized pieces. And it would be too tedious to trim to the size required.

Second reason being I wanted a change. With the 60th Whale (in total since the beginning) completed on 12 April, I felt like a factory, having carved a dozen of the same thing during the MCO (Movement Control Order) period.

So a week after Whale #60, I started on a new ginormous Gnome. But this totally new Gnome had a lot of ups and downs.

Plans to carve daily did not work out well as I had to juggle between cooking and design work. Throw in meal times and playing Homescapes, I simply did not have the luxury to sit down for a few uninterrupted hours to carve. And as work picked up too, this was far more important than all other activities. Hence progress on the piece was slow.

By the time I had the chance to sit and carve–and this would be by nightfall–I would be so tired mentally and physically, there’s no more energy left to even lift the carving knife.

Then there were errors and hiccups working on the piece. The initial outline on the big two-piece Meranti block looked okay with a slight tilt of the cap but when I got down to it, not only was I off, I managed to nick my finger without realizing. The Gnome ended up with a very obvious lop-sided cap and a slightly bloodied nose. Oops…

The cap turned out too lop-sided!
Sweat and blood stains

It’s not only a totally new Gnome but a totally new challenge as well. I thought the Little Birdy was tough, this one was equally if not more. But I ploughed on because I don’t have the correct sized wood for Whales.

The End is Not Nearer

31 Mar

Just when I thought my iPad Mini is nearing its end and usage, it found a new lease in life. Two and a half months ago, I started playing Homescapes on my iPhone XR and have been at it constantly.

One day, to my horror, I discovered this activity drained one per cent off the phone’s battery health. Eeeks! Can’t allow this to happen. So brilliantly, I thought of using the iPad Mini instead for Homescapes and give my phone a breather from constant usage.

The iPad Mini is now experiencing a revival especially with this game despite some occasional instability but generally, the game can be played online and offline as well. It’s okay if I don’t use it to read the news on Safari or even crush candies because after all, the Daily Bonus streak snapped already on Candy Crush Soda.

The end is not nearer for my faithful iPad Mini and my iPhone XR’s battery health is intact. But during this MCO period, there’s a surge in using the phone to keep up with news and social media while the iPad Mini is purely for Homescapes. I am at Level 1783 now and expect to move up to pass another day in quarantine.

Cat Condo is So Last Decade

14 Jan

Of late, collecting money to evolve cute cats is becoming so mindless and so last decade. It’s been very slow to add a new species even though I am constantly at it. I think I just want to collect them all just to see what they look like. To divert my boredom, I started playing a new game, Homescapes.

Am up to Level 343 as of today, this morning.

This game has been around for sometime already but it never caught my interest until recently. As I’m getting tired becoming a gazillionaire with both the Cat Condo games, I decided to give Homescapes a try because it kept popping up (as an ad) when I’m tending to the cats.

So far, it has been holding my interest well – I’ve been playing it at every opportunity and even into the wee hours past midnight. But we shall see how long this can last.
