I’m Back!

6 Oct

After a two-week break from writing, I’m back! Did the break help me in any way, health-wise? Apparently, no. Hahahaha. There were so many problems!

During the self-imposed hiatus, I played some golf with the haze enveloping the atmosphere (a die-hard golfer can sometimes be an irrational human); I went away with friends for short breaks for more golf, and I acquired more physical pain.

There was only one good game, which was the highlight. During the past few weeks, we had some rain, and it washed the haze down, but not enough. So, while out on the golf course, my eyesight was blurry (definitely due to the haze), and my eyes hurt; this sensation affected my golf game. My eyes hurt so bad, I ended up seeing an eye specialist!

To top off the misery, I played horrible golf except for that one exceptional game. And I pulled a back muscle from goodness-knows-what I did. After a bout of anti-inflammatory medication, painkillers, and rest, thankfully I recovered from this problem.

Maybe taking a break from writing is not such a good idea after all. I felt brain rot as I spent more hours—too many—on my iPad Mini, mindlessly playing my games. They were addictive, and unfortunately, an activity that also contributes to my eye issues.

So, in conclusion, I should keep writing to keep my mind alert, be more disciplined to reduce my addiction to my iPad games, and also minimize my outdoor activities. My overall well-being and eyesight are very important, and I should take measures to ensure no further deterioration in all aspects of my health.

The Gaming Sloth

12 Apr

We had two days of public holiday on Wednesday and Thursday because of Hari Raya celebrations. And this threw off the weekday routine. I was the ultimate sloth on Wednesday as I opted not to play golf. Instead, we stayed put to enjoy the coziness of the home.

I hardly moved and was on my iPad Mini the whole day. What made it worse was I downloaded a new game and was on it from sunrise until sundown. By the end of the day, I clocked 11 hours and 30 minutes on the iPad, playing this new game! I think a real sloth would not be so diligent at gaming.

The next day, thank goodness, I had a game with friends. Otherwise, the addiction to the new game continues.

Mummy’s Crushing Candies (Again)

3 Jul

Gone were the days when little children would tip toe around the house for fear of disturbing the parents, it’s the other way around for me. I find myself in this predicament every now and then when I come home early and both M1 and M2 are sitting at the dining table, diligently catching up with their school work, headphones in place of course.

The only time they would tip toe around me was when I was farming away on the iPad – planting corn, harvesting alfalfa and tending to my virtual animals. Thank goodness, when I reached the end of that game and there were no further updates, I stopped being a virtual farmer, and boisterous noise could be heard again.

However, I got hooked on Candy Crush and is a full time candy crusher now. Whenever they see me at it, they’d go, “Hrmph. Mummy’s crushing candies again,” and would hold off whatever questions they have at the tip of their tongues and slink away.

But at press time, the end is near for my love affair with this addictive game. I am now at 365, the last level on my iPad mini and am contemplating not furthering the game on Facebook once I end here. Normalcy returns and life continues after the end of the Candy Crush Saga.

Or can my life be normal again once I retire from Candy Crush? Only time can tell….
