All Good on the Home Front

5 Jul

Now that the bag delay issue is settled, there are other matters to tend to.

Official pet number one, Rooney, was confused then happy to see us when we got home. Generally all was good on the home front except for two things – the Marimo Moss balls and the cocoon still hanging on the tree in front of the house.

The moss balls would need some serious TLC to recover as they have turned brown but this wouldn’t be an issue to revive them. The cocoon is quite a challenge though. It’s been too long at this stage. Did we miss the emerging moment and deceived by the cocoon shell, still hanging up there? Maybe I should brave climbing up the tall ladder to have a closer look. Hmm…

I’m glad I didn’t gain too much weight, only a pound. I thought it would be more considering the 16/8 diet was thrown out the window the minute we arrived at KLIA and had a beer and indulged in snacks at the Premier Lounge before we boarded.

It wasn’t just the things we ate in the US but when we ate which was always late dinners past seven and sometimes even nine or ten at night, hardly at five or six like we normally do back home. And I ate breakfast constantly eating because it was cold and I needed food to fuel the body to keep warm.

Being back means being back to routine and I am pretty sure that extra pound will be shed in no time especially once I get over my jet lag. So it’s great that all’s good on the home front.

New Pets, Part 3

30 Aug

So now we have three Marimo Moss balls – Pete, Kate and Moses, and they live in the mini aquarium which we have relocated from the old spot. Historically, the old spot is not ideal because all the fishes and crayfishes go to pet heaven much earlier than we would have liked. Don’t know why, maybe it’s the air in that spot.

Now the mini aquarium is placed in the corner of living room and three Gnomes are tasked to guard it. It’s an adorable sight.

New Pets, Part 2

27 Aug

We did the unthinkable. Just when I thought Pete and Kate Moss, our Marimo Moss Ball pets do not seem to be growing, we bought another one! But this time it’s an even bigger one!

The little two which we acquired six months ago, at the end of February this year don’t seem to have grown. Hmm… could it be they are still living in their little glass jar with little space for movement and growth? After all, we have not moved them to the mini aquarium as originally planned.

We do change the water periodically but maybe we should place the jar in the fridge to allow them to literally chill once in a while? Leaving the jar on the dining table with the evening sun beating down at it is not the most ideal situation. But now with a big fella, whom I have named Moses, they can all move into the mini aquarium immediately.

New Pets!

1 Mar

We came across the strangest thing last weekend. Marimo Moss Balls. These things are deemed as pets, can you believe it? It is not a plant but algae.

And we bought two of them, naming them Pete and Kate Moss. Heheheh… not very creative but such apt names. Pete and Kate will stay in their enclosed glass jar for now to settle in before we transfer them to a mini aquarium that we have to suit their size. The medium-sized aquarium vacated by the crayfishes a while back is just too big in relation to these half an inch in diameter aquatic furry balls.

We gave up on pet rocks and pet water because they are not fun after the last crayfish went to pet heaven and since then, the medium-sized aquarium has been rather lifeless. The spot it’s at now will be perfect for the mini aquarium to be, for Pete and Kate don’t like the sun too much.

Now these Marimo Moss Balls are strange yet fascinating things. We were told we can even keep them in the fridge because they like a cool, if not cold, environment. After all, they are from Japan. They will also have babies and one can even travel with them. If I read up more on them, I am sure I will find more fascinating information.

Well, it will definitely be interesting with Pete and Kate in our home as our new pets.
