The Addiction Continues

29 Aug

Last Saturday morning, I woke up early for my golf game, planned ages ago. And in my morning ritual, the iPad Mini is always whipped out to check mail, update FB status and play a few of my usual games. To my dismay, I discovered Candy Crush has an update (to Level 410)! Oh dear. I am still stuck at 394 and the much awaited update finally came.

But I can only update after I return from the golf course. Sigh. I guess I am still suckered in to continue and just cannot pull away from this candy addiction.

After the golf game where Candy Crush was also among the topics yakked by the other lady golfers during lunch, I was given some sound advice on how to tackle that frustrating level. Armed with a new determination, I went home and got down to business. I should thank my advisor and my lucky stars for I finally crossed that dastardly level! It’s always the same pattern: just when you want to give up, they allow you to cross and get suckered in to continue the game.

For the record, I have reached the end of this new update and there’s only two possibilities: I will most likely overcome the last level and wait for the update or be frustrated by it and bid my time to overcome it. Either scenario will have me contemplating (again) whether to move forth on the computer or just wait until another new update comes around for the iPad.

Sucker indeed.

The Good Host Continues

21 Aug

The good host role continues! Today hubby and I went to the mall after work to buy some gifts for M3 who will leave us tomorrow. It is only befitting to return her gesture with things that will remind her of her visit and short stay with us.

But the short time at the mall wasn’t a pleasant experience. I had foot cramps! Omg! How could this be? Me, a golfer and world traveler who could walk 8km in Paris recently but not even two thousand steps in the mall! Useless, I chastised myself.

Soon the purchases were completed and we fought our way through rush hour to bring all three ‘M’s out for dinner.

Tonight we will go for a steamboat dinner as last night, dinner was at home and the previous night, at a Nyonya restaurant. All in all I think M3 is experiencing equally interesting delicacies other than the more famous nasi lemak, roti canai, char kueh teow and banana leaf rice.

Cow’s Burp

11 Jul

A few years back when M2 discovered the joy of writing little notes and messages, she wrote a lot and scattered them here and there for me to discover. One day, I found a note listing down all my favorite things. Aww… How sweet.

Scanning the list, my heart swelled, “Golf, iPad, Travel, Wine…” she knows her mummy well. Then, “Cow’s Burp!”

Intrigued, I asked her what that was and she went, “Cow’s Burp? Oh, that is what you and daddy drink when you go out!”

“Ahh… You mean Carlsberg!” I said, totally tickled.

“Uh-huh, Cow’s Burp. Isn’t that how it is spelt?” she looked at me with eyebrows raised.

Err… not quite but close, Cow’s Burp, Carlsberg. Chortle!

The iPod Is Not Part of The Jello!

17 Jun

M2 adores her iPod Touch. Everywhere she goes, so does the device; it never leaves her hands. She was rewarded with it last year when she met and surpassed the year end exam’s target.

Anyway, yesterday hubby and I went off to play golf and M2 decided to finally make the Oreo Jello pudding. M1 helped and all was fine, I think. It was 9.30pm, whilst having our dinner after the game I received the call. “Mummy. What time are you coming home?” M1 wanted to know. “Soon,” I said, “Is there a problem?”

“Well, Mabel is very sad. She has something to tell you.” Oh dear. I braced for what calamity I may hear.

It turns out that in her moment of enthusiasm of completing the Jello, the iPod that never leaves her hand chose that moment to dip into the mush just as she was placing the bowl in the fridge. The speaker and the dock connector had a taste of Oreo Jello!

Horrors. M2’s heart and world came crashing down. Her beloved iPod, rendered useless! M1 helped clean off as much as possible but the speaker just couldn’t function, totally blocked with jello.

We got home as fast as we could. The first thing I did was to google up the solution, “How to fix iPod with blocked speaker.” and tadaaa…… Google is amazing!

Hubby used the hair dryer to heat up the iPod to soften the front, intending to pry it open as instructed. But the heat must have melted off all the goo inside because when he accidently clicked the ON/OFF button, a sound came through, loud and clear! The intense heat had resurrected the iPod! There was sound coming out from the speaker again.

You could sense the relief in M2. A lesson was definitely learnt. There are times it’s okay to put the iPod down when it comes to using the hands for other things, like putting a bowl of Jello in the fridge.
