Hot and Windy

25 Feb

This morning we had breakfast at the hotel before heading to Loch Palm Golf Club. Today’s outing was very hot but very windy. Half the time, I removed my cap for fear of it flying off my head. Then again, thank goodness for the wind, else I would have melted. For someone who golfs so much, I simply cannot stand the heat.

Several times, the tongue slipped and ‘Loch Ness’ was mentioned instead of ‘Loch Palm’. I thought it was funny but it was not when the lakes swallowed several of my golf balls! Goodness, what was wrong with me this morning? Nonetheless, I fared so much better on the back nine especially after downing a can of cold Singha.

Maybe that was what I needed. A cold beer.

After a quick lunch at the clubhouse, we then headed back to Patong area to check out the shops lining the streets. The heat was unbearable, such a scorcher and I could feel my bare calves burning. It’s just too hot to walk the streets and collectively, we decided to go back to our rooms to rest. And just as well so that I can catch up with my virtual games.

By evening, we all met up for dinner and ventured to Mr Good’s Seafood. And as always, we would go into 7-11 and pick up snacks from there. It is always exciting to discover new flavors and try them.

As we wind down for the day, it has been good. Tomorrow we have a noon-time tee off at Red Mountain Golf Club. For once, we can sleep in. Yay.

Bright and hot day!

Do What You Like

25 Feb

When one is on holiday, one should do what one likes. With this in mind, here we are in Phuket, doing what we like: having a cold Singha beer on a hot afternoon, going for a foot massage, eating at odd hours, enjoying people-watching and play golf with good friends. Phuket is interesting and to a certain extent, very different from Bangkok.

Maybe because all the happening things are all concentrated at Patong Beach area, where we are staying, we can feel the vibrancy. But it is not a place for children. A lot of skin and a lot of booze, maybe a little too much even for me. I have grown to become a dinosaur…

But then again, this is our first time here and experiencing Phuket for its attractions and the golf courses. We tee off at 8.55am today.

Call Me Spencer, Angie Spencer

24 Feb

KLIA2 is always crowded with travelers. Everything went smoothly from leaving home, checking-in to departure; we were on time. The one hour 20 minutes flight went by quickly yet I still had time to enjoy my pre-ordered Bukhara Chicken Briyani lunch on board.

Upon touchdown, everything went smoothly also. We got our bags in no time and walked out to look out for the pick-up board with my name on it.

We looked to the left and to the right of the sidewalk but we couldn’t see my name. Or even his name. Uh-oh. Where’s our pick up? After ten minutes, hubby said to call the number to ensure the pick up has been notified. So I called.

We waited another five minutes and suddenly a guy approached us. He had ‘Angie Spencer’ written on his paper! Not sure where this came from but it’s supposed to be me. No wonder I didn’t recognize my name! Hahahaha…

I looked at hubby and asked since when he became Mr Spencer? I thought it was funny.

Soon we were on our way to our hotel, Yorkshire Inn, home for the next three nights. We wait for our two friends to arrive later this evening. And will have a cold Singha shortly to toast this trip and perhaps, my new name, Angie Spencer. The holiday has begun!

Game one is on tomorrow at Loch Palm Golf Club.

Yes, We Are Going Away

24 Feb

I wouldn’t say this was impromptu nor was it planned months before; we just decided we needed to go away. Enough festive eating and celebration, a time away to realign ourselves to ourselves.

We are off to Phuket this time, a first for us as it has always been Bangkok for us whenever Thailand comes to mind.

There will be golf, of course and food. I guess the eating cannot be avoided but with golf thrown in, I think there is lesser guilt.

Looking forward to this first getaway of the year!

I Gotta Do Something

18 Feb

This constant eating or should I say, over eating, is getting to me and I decided not to wait until after Chap Goh Meh to do something about it.

On Monday (night), being the 8th day of Chinese New Year, we were visiting a friend and the food spread beckoned. Oh dear, I was actually still feeling stuffed from lunch! I was cautious and conscious to eat in moderation. I even minimised my beer intake because my Liz Claiborne pants never felt so tight. Groan…

The next day, there was another Yee Sang dinner scheduled with our Tuesday Food Club friends but I opted out because I had to send M2 to her tuition class; hubby went for the dinner alone.

On Wednesday morning, I decided to walk and play 9-holes of golf in anticipation of yet another Yee Sang meal ahead, lunch with my office staff. I think it’s the least I can do for now. I managed to burn 282kcal in my 5.8km walk, recorded by my Mi Band.

There’s still the finale Chap Goh Meh big feast ahead and who knows, some impromptu in between meals may crop up. So I gotta do something to reduce my guilt and my waistline…Today, I will walk 9-holes again. I need to.

It’s All About Eating

11 Feb

Chinese New Year is all about eating. Traffic was not that bad when we traveled on Monday. And when we arrived, we had a late lunch. Then an early dinner.

The next day, it was a full three meals, starting with Roti Canai for breakfast and lunch, a home-cooked spread at an aunty’s place. As for dinner, we drove to Kuala Kedah to enjoy a sunset before having dinner at the seafood restaurant nearby the coast. Burp.

Thank goodness by Wednesday, the third day of Chinese New Year, we went off to play golf at Darulaman Golf Club. I should say a necessity so that I don’t feel so guilty with all these intake; burnt some calories I sure did. Lunch and dinner were again meals at home.

Today we head on home, after a meal of course. Hopefully traffic will be smooth. All in all, it has been all about eating more than catching up with family.

Internet Woes

2 Feb

Last week I did not work. Not so much from lack of work but the office internet was down the whole week due to a gnawed cable downstairs, a situation beyond our control.

It was tough to juggle. Our high dependency on connectivity is so necessary nowadays and the moment we are not online, we seem so lost being disconnected. I used my phone’s data plan only for the necessary and even then, nothing could be done. Better to go home early and use the house wifi to stay connected. Or go play golf, which I did!

Thankfully the problem has been fixed and no more playing around this week, not even for my virtual games. Several hundred emails await…

Being Charitable

29 Jan

Being charitable is good. For society, the cause and also one’s inner soul. When you combine this with golf, it is more than good. It is fun!

Today we take the day off to play a round of golf for a charitable cause and have some good fun with friends on the fairways and greens. Happy weekend ahead too! Whee….

The Shoe Queen, Part 3

28 Jan

The Shoe Queen in me struck and I bought another pair of golf shoes on Monday when we went shopping. Unbelievable. My last pair, the Skechers, bought not too long ago is still in good condition but I couldn’t resist this latest one, an Adidas Adicross. It’s adorable plus it was on sale.

At the rate that I am buying golf shoes, I am certain it has surpassed my collection of heels and work shoes. Then again, when I wear Skechers to work, my other work shoes are hardly used. And also, when one has a pair of classic Ferragamo Vara, one does not buy any other shoes. And when there’s also another Ferragamo Artiste heels, there is no need for further purchases.

Except maybe for golf shoes…

I Could Get Used to This

26 Jan

It was another three-day weekend (the first being the New Year stretch) as yesterday was a replacement holiday for Thaipusam which was celebrated on Sunday. But going somewhere is just not viable especially when it is only two weeks away to Chinese New Year. So we went about doing our stuff over the three days.

I got most of my Chinese New Year preparation done, played a round of golf, had a massage, went shopping and basically enjoyed the three day break with hubby and M2. M2 completed her art assignment, reproducing an existing packaging and I think she did a good job!

I also caught up with my virtual games, bull-dozing my way from Level 1460 (Divine Diner, Episode 98) into Dessert Desert for Candy Crush and 844 for Monster Blasters. However, still stuck at Level 854 for Farm Heroes, 603 for Soda and 56 for Jelly. But I’m not worried.

Come next week, we will be having yet another three-day weekend because Monday is another public holiday. Back-to-back three-day breaks! I could get used to this. Am pretty sure those stuck levels will be a thing of the past by the time next weekend comes along.

We get to eat the Kit-Kat after this!
