Busy Days Ahead

22 Sep

It’s a blessing in disguise as today is yet another public holiday! There’s so much carving to do.

The last two balsa wood that I bought not too long ago are all carved up. So I need more and last weekend, I decided to buy four, double the usual two that I normally get.

Obviously there will be a boom in Gigglesville as one piece would yield 12 citizens; with four pieces, wow, busy days ahead for me! It’s just a matter of how much time I would take, not how many I can make.

And with the arrival of the new tools, busy days ahead indeed; the three day long weekend is most welcomed.

Online Shopping, Part 2

After waiting patiently for 11 days, my set of carving tools from Lazada finally arrived yesterday! Yay.

Carving from now on will be so much more fun.

Carving is Good, Carving is Bad

14 Sep

I’ve come to conclusion that carving has been good and bad. Good because it’s an outlet for me these past few months to channel my energy all this time while resting to recover from my tennis elbow; bad because I sit so much, I feel that my ass has grown. Ugh. And this was confirmed by Mom sometime back when she commented that I had expanded sideways. Ouch.

Then again, it can’t be that bad because Gigglesville was created with all these cute and lovable citizens; and the physical problem can be resolved over time.

Thank goodness these days I am back to playing golf and being at the gym, and Gigglesville continues to bloom beautifully.

Online Shopping

12 Sep

As you know, I am not an avid shopper. Put me in a mall for hours, I would be drained of energy and feeling super lethargic. I simply cannot stand the noisy crowd, the screaming kids and the lack of oxygen in an enclosed environment.

However, sometimes a trip to the mall is necessary but only to buy and do the necessary. No window-shopping excursions in other words and I avoid those mega-sales extravaganzas like a plague.

Recently, this dinosaur discovered the joys of online shopping! No crowds, no kids, no lack of oxygen and at the comfort of my space, it’s kinda nice. And thrilling to a certain extent when I am able to find something that I like and need.

It’s not amazon.com that I am talking about but a local portal, lazada.com.my. It’s truly mind boggling what one can find on there; a true definition of a one-stop for all your needs.

But I am selective. Most purchases are things at a great bargain and useful like a bean bag and golf club covers or even useless, like the fidget spinner which I still don’t get it until now.

My most recent purchase, a set of carving tools to complement my existing set, will definitely be a useful one to grow my Gigglesville township.

I look forward to the package arriving.

A Tribute – The Great Wall of China, Part 2

8 Sep

Wanderlust Owl is ready to join the real Wanderlust person. This special carving comes complete in a casing with pebbles and a lookout cliff to represent the real Wanderer of the Great Wall of China, who will embark on his next month long expedition soon.

All the best to the real Wanderer! You are certainly an inspiration to all with your determination, courage, focus and spirit.

Why Not, Part 2

7 Sep

In between the thoughts for a new Citizen of Gigglesville, new paintings that I want to do, I have been thinking about the little door idea for our frangipani tree. If the squirrels do not appreciate it, at least I have a fantastic backdrop to create a real Gigglesville township!

So I googled up some ideas and stumbled upon gnomes and fairy garden doors. The fairy doors were awesome ideas that opened up a whole new world of possibilities. How exciting!

I hope this will materialise into something concrete rather than just being an idea.

We shall see…

A Brand New Citizen

31 Aug

So I finally did it! It took me several days to brainstorm before the execution. There were some tweaks but certain elements remain the same.

Nonetheless, I would consider this a totally new Citizen of Gigglesville. It would look good in the official five colors. And yellow shoes, it’s gotta have yellow shoes.

Not All are Equal

29 Aug

Like us humans, the Citizens of Gigglesville are not created equal. They come in all different shapes and colors. But size-wise, they are about the same, given the one inch balsa I use; only their height differs.

There are several ‘types’ of citizens, all sculpted with love. Every time when one is completed, I break into a giggle and my heart is filled with joy and love.
How can one not giggle and love them by just looking at their innocent giggly expressions?

Why Not?

28 Aug

Not too long ago, a friend posted an adorable picture on Facebook which showed a cute little door at the foot of a tree for the neighborhood squirrels. She befittingly named them Mr and Mrs Squirrel, the squirrels that is, not the neighbor. Who made the door, she wasn’t sure but I thought it was adorable and got me thinking.

We already have a bird house for the visiting birds but no ‘home’ set up for the visiting squirrels. And since we have a frangipani tree in our garden, why not—just for fun—make a door just like that posting so that Sammy and Lefty (that’s the name I call our visiting squirrels) can feel more at home.

Maybe I should divert to this if I am still stuck for inspiration for a new Gigglesville’s citizen?

Dry Spell

25 Aug

Things have been slow lately. So much so, I feel so sluggish. The weather, being so hot and humid is not helping either.

I am going through a dry spell as far as Gigglesville is concerned. There were two four-day stretches that I didn’t carve anything!

I suddenly have this urge to create a new character but stuck for inspiration. Thank goodness, the side-tracked Octopus I did for M2 kept me busy but after that, nothing.

I need to recharge…
