Beyond January and April

7 Apr

When I was young, I had only 4 important dates to remember: my birthday, mom’s, dad’s and my only elder sibling. Mom, Dad and me are April babies while my only sibling, January. It used to be then one celebration in January for him and a combined one for the three of us.

Fast forward to the present. Both my sibling and I are married and separately, each with a family of our own. I now have the hubby, M1 and M2’s birthdays, spread across the calendar. And him, with his wife and children, the calendar is filled with even more dates to remember. In the family, April by far has the most number of family members having their birthdays. And combined birthday celebrations are done occasionally (especially when the children were younger) but the bigger picture being several birthday dinners and cakes in the year beyond January and April.

This year, we decided to do the combined celebration for the April babies again although Dad is no longer with us. One half of the twins is back from college and the April month is back to its three person requirement.

So happy birthday mom, my niece and me!

Of Fruits, Animals and Candies

4 Apr

Candy Crush has finally updated on the iPad! What this means is I can alternate between my three games, Candy Crush, Farm Heroes and Zookeeper Battle on just one device and not fight with the girls for the laptop.

Farm Heroes was just so difficult at Level 157, I almost gave up but persistency and patience paid off. But having landed at 160 is not easy either. Sigh…

As for Candy Crush, this new chapter has new challenges. No tornadoes but candies on a rail track that moves with each move on top of time bombs! Am at Level 534 for a while now. I wonder if I should change my retired status for Candy Crush now that I am back in the race. Hmm…

And what can I say about Zookeeper Battle? I love the game!

Don’t You M&G!

3 Apr

Sometimes I like to spell things out, literally, for the girls. I’d come home from work and call out to them by spelling out their names. M2 find this amusing and would reply by spelling out her greeting. It’s fun.

However, there are occasions where I’d abbreviate things especially when nagging at them.

“Don’t you M&G about it!” I’d threaten.

No, M&G is not the clothes brand, M&G or Mango but ‘moan and groan’ about the situation, the homework, the predicament or life in general…

Happy April Fool’s Day!

1 Apr

It was after dinner and M2 innocently asked if she could borrow my iPad Mini. I obliged since I had things to do and the iPad was just sitting there.

Later, after their snail catching episode, which I thought was worthy to write about (and I did), I reached for my iPad to start my documenting, the iPad acted up!

Every other word I typed in came out as ‘nugget’!

Imagine “It’s been raining again lately and this has caused a lot of nugget…”

Initially I thought it must be the new update of the app that was causing this, so I brushed it aside. But as I typed more… “Hubby has declared nugget on them and…” Eeesh.

When I mentioned this, the giggles came out and the beans were spilled! I’ve been had. Nugget-ed to be precise.

Earlier when M2 borrowed the iPad, she rigged the keyboard shortcuts to have every other word come out as ‘nugget’. Rascal. It was her pre-April Fool’s prank on me.

She was lucky I was in a good mood. The punishment: her iPod taken away for the night and if she has trouble waking up the next morning without her alarm (on the iPod), it’s her problem! Hubby thought I was harsh to take her precious iPod away and suggested I should just smack her for the prank but I felt it was unnecessary. The glass of wine must have mellowed me. In the end, a pre-April Fool’s hug to make amends and all nuggets forgiven.

Happy April Fool’s Day folks!

Michael 2.0

It’s been raining again lately and this has caused a lot of woes in the garden. For starters, snails are crawling everywhere and this is detrimental to the plants. Hubby has declared war on them and the last two nights, he’s gone out to catch them.

Armed with the torchlight from the iPod and iPhone, the girls and him have had quite a catch. M2 decided to keep one and named it Michael, as if it’s a new pet. Don’t ask.

Last night, more were caught and Michael 2.0 became the latest addition. Let’s see if there will be Michael the III the next day…

The Bellybutton

31 Mar

When the girls were young, they used to question why the bellybutton is called a ‘bellybutton’ when it looks more like a hole than a button? Shouldn’t it be called the ‘bellyhole’ if it looks more like a hole than a button? And where is the button?! I had no answer to that one so we ended up calling it the ‘belly-ba’, to note its neither here nor there physical characteristic.

It was several nights ago when the evening conversation suddenly focused on the belly-ba. Both girls were laughing at each other’s physical attribute of this part of the anatomy, calling it names from the black hole to the abyss that made me recall fondly of this name, the belly-ba, that we have given to the bellybutton.

Back in the Race!

I stopped playing Candy Crush for awhile already and this was evident from my recent golf trip to Chiangmai. Not only did I not crush candies, I paused in my other two games as well (Zookeeper Battle and Farm Heroes Saga).

However, when a fellow candy crusher commented yesterday on one of my post that she could play on beyond Level 530 in Facebook on the laptop, I went in to check. Yes, indeed! A new chapter has started. I guess I am back in the race.

My Roo Was Embarrassed!

27 Mar

It was a balmy night and everyone was out in the garden after dinner, even the Roo, official pet number one. He was given a juicy bone and gnawing to his heart’s content, his drool messed up all over the terrace floor. Yuk, slimy!

Then playtime started. His favorite orange chew cow was brought out to tease him into action. Feeling revved, he leaped to snatch it from me and as he trotted towards the terrace, he slipped on his own drool pool!

It was hilarious but the girls missed it. Hubby and I guffawed and thought he would be a clown about the slip.

But he was embarrassed!!! He sobered, limped a little and did not look at us! He literally looked away. Aww… My baby was embarrassed that he slipped and we laughed at him. Hubby had to coax him and gave him a good scratch and some loving. It was so amusing. I hope we hurt didn’t his feelings…

A Pause in Remembrance

25 Mar

Today I pause and give prayers and thoughts to the families of the passengers on board Flight MH370. It was announced last night that the flight ended in the Indian Ocean.

The Energy is Sapped

24 Mar

It’s interesting to note when one goes on vacation, the level of energy is always high and charged up even though sleep is insufficient and complete rest is lacking during the whole time. The minute one gets home, a sense of the oncoming familiarity kicks in with the thought of an uninterrupted sleep ahead yet the energy is sapped.

I guess when the vacation is over and faced with going back to work, responsibilities and routine, the enthusiasm is at a different level. No wonder people always say another vacation is needed to recover from the just concluded one.
