Newbie Emerge

10 Oct

Carving has taken on a new challenge for me. Besides the latest superhero, SuperCute for Gigglesville, I carved up two Monuments, a three-tier and a two-tier totem pole and of course, more Citizens. I am up to Citizen #98.

And my M2 constantly challenges me with new quirky non-owl requests. Her latest request, a garden gnome! Remember the last time, it was an octopus?

It took me some time because I had to research and plan. Over the weekend, I finally did it!

Exam Week

9 Oct

How fast time flies! It is October already and exam week for M2 or should I say, exam month! It started last week and she has just about three week’s of exams to face.

Thank goodness next week is a break because of the Deepavali holidays but soon after, the exams continue. So much to study, my goodness.

I don’t recall such a lengthy stretch for exams during my high school days. College exams certainly wasn’t that long; it depended on how many subjects one would take and normally within a week.

Well, we will be study police of sorts sitting with her every evening to give her the moral support that she needs. All the best M2!

The Gum Ball Machine, Part 3

6 Oct

After nearly eight months, the M&M’s in my gum ball machine are finally depleting. It’s been really slow to consume them because I am not munching on them constantly. So who is doing all that eating? Honestly, it’s M2 and only when she comes by the office, which is not often.

Nonetheless, I will have to replenish the supply soon. Maybe I won’t go for the crispy and with nuts type but just good ol’ plain M&Ms. Mmmm…..

Boys, Girls and Couples’ Trip

5 Oct

Earlier this year, hubby and his high school friends went on their Boys’ Trip and such nostalgia they had. Every year or every other year, these guys – all grown men would make the effort to get together for this. What’s amazing is that we are talking about at least nine of them, not just a handful! With busy schedules and all working professionals, they somehow managed. Such is their bond.

I always have the impression for such trips, they would behave like youngsters, unbefitting of their age and having a good time. After all, boys will be boys and men can be boys too.

But seriously, all they do is just reminisced about their good old days besides catching up with each other and having a good time. Throw in a couple of golf games, alcohol and good food, what more could they ask for? This annual affair certainly refreshes them and gives another meaning to the saying, growing old together.

There was a time when my high school girlfriends and I would do the same as well with our annual Girls’ Trip. But sadly, over the years, everyone thinks they are too busy and cannot commit to this annual affair. Sigh…

There was one year, the six of us did make the extra effort when we hit the big four. Ok, I admit… I am not Forever 38 like what my two girls think. We booked a villa in Seminyak, Bali, and it came complete with a private pool, butler and chauffeur. What a really wonderful time we had. Imagine jumping into the pool at midnight without a worry and having fits of giggles.

The villa experience stuck in my mind that several years later, I proposed the villa stay idea to our group of friends and before we knew it, a Couples’ Trip materialized! There were four married couples and a single girlfriend and we had one heckuva time. Ahh… such precious memories.

I must say trips, golf games inclusive or not and whether with good friends, group friends or spouses are good for the heart and soul as well as the friendship/relationship. With this being said, I hope my group of high school girlfriends can find the time to commit to a Girls’ Trip soon for old friendship’s sake.

A New Superhero

3 Oct

Meet SuperCute, Gigglesville’s newest superhero. I named it SuperCute because well, it is super cute. Just look at the face! How can one stay evil when faced with such a cute and adorable superhero? A smile would definitely break out.

Together with SuperOwl, SuperOink and Penguin Power (and led by Lord Bubba), they fight evil to bring laughter, love and tons of giggles to the world, much needed in our current times today.

Oh My English

2 Oct

Local Chinese restaurants in Malaysia are awesome especially those that are family-owned. While their food and cooking are really good, the same cannot be said for their English to attract patrons.

These two restaurants that we have been to recently are perfect examples of what I mean.

I am not too sure what is a ‘Chicken Cute’ on the menu. Chicken Cubes? Then right above this category is another eyebrow-raising item: Hong Kong style pig Sharpei! Goodness gracious. Are they serving Sharpeis? It’s too hilarious and a challenge trying to figure these out.

Then at another restaurant, they had a banner at their entrance listing ‘Pork Crab’ besides Marmite Crab and Sweet Sour Crab, the last two being the cooking style. ’Pork Crab’ certainly does not sound like a cooking style. And we know there’s pork and there’s crab but ‘Pork Crab’? What is it?

After a while, I finally understood what it meant. It’s a direct translation from the Chinese phrase that actually meant ‘Meaty Crab’!

It’s always a delight to discover such places for their food and the unintended humour.

Should I Update?

29 Sep

Not too long ago, I finally updated the OS on my iPhone5S to iOS10. I held out for the longest time because of one bad update moment that crashed my iPad Mini and it left me in fear. I had this silly notion that the same fate would happen to my phone, so I remained at 7.1.2 like a dinosaur.

Thankfully nothing tragic happened and I must say I am happy with the performance of my phone with the new OS. There was more space and apps that I couldn’t download before because of OS incompatibility are no longer an issue.

There is a new OS now, the iOS11. And I am just wondering should I update? M2 updated her iPad Mini 4 without problems and gushed that it’s awesome. My iPad Mini, being such an old device has maxed out already for its OS but my phone can still be updated.

Should I? Hmm…

Still At It

28 Sep

I’m still at Candy Crush Soda after so long and it’s more to collect the daily rewards than crush any candies honestly. The continuity is ridiculous – close to 400 consecutive days on the iPad and 200 days on the iPhone. Sometimes I don’t even play the game!

As for Candy Crush Saga itself, the game is only played on the laptop or desktop if I have time. Will I ever give up?

Homes for Citizens of Gigglesville

26 Sep

Hubby was at a Plants & Garden Exhibition two weekends ago and he bought these little homes for me. How sweet. He said the minute he saw them, he felt that they would make nice homes for the Citizens of Gigglesville despite their being gnome-sized.

I think they are rather cute and see them as the basis to draw up my township’s master plan. I just need to put in all on paper. And when it’s shaped up nicely, I am thinking more of a painting for a backdrop. If the mood hits, I may even carve up a little home or two for my precious Citizens of Gigglesville.

Gigglesville

Five, Seven or More?

25 Sep

So we had another long three-day weekend and as planned, I carved. This began on Thursday night itself with the creation of Citizen #86. Then on Friday, I was on a roll, three more Citizens came about!

By Saturday, I was so pumped up, I did a totem pole of three Citizens, honouring three species. I called this the Landmark of Gigglesville.

But now, I am in a fix. Does it count one or three, after all it has three Citizens one on top of another. With four done up on Thursday and Friday, how does this add to the count?

Hubby said it should be a Monument because it aptly commemorates the birth of Gigglesville, and I ought to serialize it too. Having said that, the Superheroes, the ‘O’ Mobile, the Mayor, Wanderlust Owl, the pets and E.B. (Evil Buster) were not serialized like the normal Citizens, they have names instead. And this whole lot adds up another ten to the tally!

Prior to the Monument, a new Superhero was also created plus a new Adventure owl several days ago but both are still work in progress. So in essence chronologically, I have actually surpassed the 100th mark; the Monument being the 103rd piece of Gigglesville because the first totem pole that started this all must be counted as well.

WOW. It’s certainly not five or seven but more!

Work in progress for these two
