A Happy Occasion

14 Nov

Traffic on the small island state was a challenge when one is rushed for time. Luckily we made it on time. The solemnization ceremony took place at Four Seasons Singapore. The bride looked very pretty and the groom, dashing.

It was a sweet moment when they exchanged vows. I choked and could feel tears coming along. Oh no… Blinking hard, I managed to suppress it. Nobody was sniffling or crying and I didn’t want to be the only one!

Dinner that followed was a jovial time. Needless to say, it was a happy occasion.

Congratulations cousin, so happy for you and to your new hubby, welcome to the family.

Better to Rest

13 Nov

The poolside plan did not materialize as soon as we stepped into the room. The sofa was so inviting and the lull of the aircon just did us in.

Deciding to just rest in the room, maybe it was for the better.

Tonight’s function is a wedding dinner, so gotta look fresh and ready for it!

A Happy Camper

13 Nov

Satisfied with my purchases today, yes, I am a happy camper! The shopping outing was not too long, so it wasn’t an ordeal and the nice weather beckons.

By 1.45pm we decided to go back to the hotel and just lounge by the poolside (with a margarita or beer in hand) before the function tonight.

Sunny Skies

13 Nov

It’s a beautiful day today with the sun out and the pool inviting! Thoughts of sipping a margarita by the poolside is very appealing over gulping down a beer…

But this will have to wait. We are going to the mall again! It will not be a long outing but just to get something in mind. Hopefully, Takashimaya has it.

Will come back early to enjoy the pool!

I Survived Shopping Again!

12 Nov

A different country but the activity is the same – shopping. Not my cup of tea, yet I do it whenever I travel.

In Singapore this week, we were in Vivo City for about two hours then we hopped on the MRT to Orchard and ended up in ION Orchard. Let me tell you, I have a fear of this mall. Why? You might want to know… well, we can never find the exits… The layout of this mall is too complicated for us!

Thankfully, we managed to find our way to Wheelock Place, crossed the road to Shaw House and then to Tangs, covering these few malls in the few hours until we couldn’t walk anymore and had to take a cab back to the hotel.

I bought something that I don’t normally buy: a dinner dress! (Faint)… Tell me about it but it’s a pretty thing.

So, am I surviving shopping? Maybe…

Oh no… Gloomy Skies

12 Nov

We woke up to gloomy skies – raining, dark and no different from back home. But does it matter if we are not playing golf? I guess not. We are on a leisurely break so we took it in stride.

Deciding not to drive, we opted for the shuttle bus to go to Vivo City, Singapore’s largest mall. More shopping! I hope I can hold up okay.

No Rush? Ppfffttt!!!!!

11 Nov

As far as I can recall, Eng Seng Restaurant at Joo Chiat Place closes at nine. We should have enough time to lick the pepper off our fingers.

My cousin got there at eight and ordered ahead. Within five minutes, the food came! Oh dear. She worried that we may get there late.

We got there at about 8.20pm and the restaurant crew reminded that they are closing at 8.45pm!

Wait a minute! Why 8.45pm now? Isn’t it 9.00pm?

Gosh. After eating a plate of the noodles and some strands of veg at a decent pace with causing indigestion, I tucked into a piece of the peppery crab only to be reminded again of their closing time. The need to rush us was just so overwhelming!

Gee. How can one eat normally?

The next thing we knew, the shop shutters were coming down! And before we recovered from this, a crew came over and said we have to take away our food.

I understand if you have to close at the time stipulated but I just simply cannot comprehend that we were not even allowed to finish whatever we have ordered. They were obviously not compassionate enough to allow us to eat behind closed doors. Never in my dining experience have I encountered such a situation. The audacity of them!

Were we wrong to be late? Are they arrogant to do what they did?

Disappointment and arrogance is how I summed up the experience. It is definitely not recommended unless one wants to experience what we just did.

No Rush

11 Nov

It was a leisurely drive from home to Singapore save for a slight congestion right after the toll gate from home.

Traffic in the city state was also smooth. We checked in by five. I love Shangrila and its Rasa Sentosa Resort is just so welcoming. There was free wifi and of course, status on Facebook had to be announced and emails checked.

After a good two hour rest and several rounds of Zookeeper Battle, we got ready to go out for dinner.

Pepper crab in mind, we will head on out to Eng Seng Restaurant at Joo Chiat Place. Mmmm….

Back-to-back

11 Nov

Having barely recovered from my hectic Bangkok trip, I unpacked yesterday and packed again for Singapore! Yes, a vacation to recover from the earlier vacation, or is it, being back-to-back?

This time, the trip will be less hectic and I can’t wait to arrive at the hotel and just lounge by the poolside with a cold beer or margarita in hand.

Pre-vacation Get Together

4 Nov

It’s been awhile traveling abroad with friends. My last few travels have been with—let’s see—hubby (Singapore), hubby and sibling (Paris), hubby again (local golf escapade) and hubby & office staff (Bali).

I have various travel groups for different travel categories: ‘all-girls trips’ are with friends since childhood whom I grew up together with; ‘couples trips’ are with married couple friends (sans children) and so on.

Now I have never traveled afar with this group of friends. Not new in the friendship but new in traveling together. As such, it was only the right thing to do to have dinner together to get to know them beyond the usual social golf meets.

Two weeks ago, hubby and I dined with the group whom I will be traveling with for my next destination. While hubby is not going for that trip, he joined us for dinner. Despite the handful who could not make it that night, it was good camaderie as we bonded over dinner, wine, whiskey and homemade cheese cake. I am sure when the group is whole, it will be even more merry-making and one blast of a trip!

Definitely looking forward to it tomorrow…
