Don’t Blink

2 Dec

Goodness it’s December already! Where did time go, I have to ask. If you blink, it would just escape you. So… don’t blink.

Over the weekend, we joined our golf Club for a quick getaway to Malacca for two rounds of golf. And it happened so fast, I didn’t even have a chance to take any photos on my iPhone XR of the hotel we stayed at, the food we ate, the golf courses and the players we played with.

Maybe because I blinked (my eyes were so dry due to the Silhouette glasses that I am still wearing) and missed capturing the two days that went by so fast. Gotta stop blinking. And also get the eyes checked too.

The End of the Road?

15 Nov

Last Saturday at 5.30pm, my iPad Mini – a first gen unit and still on iOS9.3.5 (because it cannot update any further) suddenly died despite having about 50 percent of battery life left. It just went flat when I tried to turn it on. Zero power, nada, zilch, empty…

Within two days, this faithful device of mine pulled this stunt twice – drained to the core without any activity despite having battery life to spare. It has never done this before, so I don’t know why this happened. I’ve had it for seven years and that’s a long time.

I plugged it in to charge (and yes I did turn on the power) but it didn’t seem to respond. Oh dear… I hope it can be revived.

So now I am sort of iPad-less and I can’t decide if I want to buy a replacement. Then again do I actually need one? As the iOS keeps updating and newer devices flood the market each year, my poor old device can’t keep up and has been left behind.

It’s always quitting unexpectedly on me when I am in the thick of a strategic move especially Candy Crush Soda or it’s spinning endlessly when I try to read the news on Safari. And apps like Skype and Netflix cannot be used anymore because they no longer support older devices.

So I’ve stopped bringing my iPad Mini to the office because of these issues. The performance or lack of it has been very glaring compared to my iPhone XR which serves me well for all my needs.

But I just hope the unfortunate power issue was just a one (or should I say two)-off occurrence and won’t be repeated. I’d have to monitor and hope it’s not the end of the road for my iPad Mini.

In Memory of…

11 Nov

Today would have been official pet number one’s 12th birthday. Sniffle…

It’s been a month since Rooney’s passing. How time flies! There are days when we get home, I find myself looking out for him expecting a patch of fur lying at the garden terrace when I open the front door. But he’s not there….

We have been keeping busy so that we don’t think too much of the loss. The house has been rather quiet sans the barking or the act of talking to a pet who was literally our third child, our baby. To overcome this, I find myself playing music more often than ever on my iPhone XR. Sometimes I would up the volume on Spotify’s choices for me or simply blast my Music’s playlist so that it’s not so quiet. Sigh…

Happy birthday Roo, you’re in a better place but always in our thoughts and hearts.

Gone to the Dark Side

27 Sep

Two days ago, I found out that iOS13 can be downloaded already but truth be told, I wasn’t keeping tab on it. It was M2 who mentioned to me when I spoke to her. She’s doing great by the way, enjoying college life to the max in Ireland.

Anyway, I downloaded the update for my iPhone XR. And my… my… new features to learn! The biggest thing was of course the Dark Mode, which I enabled. Like a Jedi gone bad, I gravitated to the dark side. Bwahahaha…. I couldn’t resist. Seriously I enabled it to only activate after dark, perfect for reading in bed or low light environments, as what Apple envisioned.

The other new fun thing I discovered – creating my very own memoji. This feature was available since iOS12 but I never used it. According to reviews, it’s now more refined and more fun to use. I’m glad to have discovered it now as it’s rather delightful, and my memoji looks pretty close to the real me. I’m a good memoji I must say! Heheh.

The other thing that I was fiddling with was Shortcuts which somewhat works for me and not. Apps that I use constantly, I can’t seem to add to the menu. User problem? I think this will take me some time to figure out.

Nonetheless, I seem to embrace the latest changes well. Gotta keep up with technology even if this means leaping over to the dark side with glee.

A Delightful Discovery

13 Sep

It was a typical morning getting ready to leave the house for the office. Sometimes, we would do a quick spot check for caterpillars on the lime tree closest to the car at the front of the house. On this particular morning, we discovered a beauty hiding between the branches!

My my… looking rather alien but not spooked, the moth did not even budged when we took turns to take its picture up close. Later, when we got to the office, hubby googled it up to learn that it was an Oleander Hawk Moth. What a delightul discovery!

This species is rather large, sleek and thrives in warm climates. And it loves to hide within lush green foliage which I don’t think our lime tree is that lush though. But I am not complaining for we had the chance to admire a full grown beautiful moth instead of just caterpillars all the time.

Cat Condo II

6 Sep

img_4729

M1 and I had our usual weekly Skype session last week and she told me she read about my Cat Condo stories on my blog. Feeling intrigue about the game, she downloaded the app to play too. Hahahaha…. I was flattered. However, it wasn’t Cat Condo but Cat Condo II that she downloaded. I was surprised to find out that there’s a second edition to this crazy cat game that I’ve been at for days.

So obviously I downloaded the game too! This second edition is much more realistic in terms of the fortune earned, not running into trillions and quadrillions like the original.

As for the cats, they are pretty much the same species but cuter and more plump. Plus there’s more things going on within the app, mini games and opportunity to win accessories to dress up the cats, making it even more engaging than mindless. Nonetheless, both are equally very entertaining for me.

And I have been so so busy with both games. Even at Club Med when I’m supposed to be relaxing, there I was managing the two condos for my cats in between drinks and activities.

What’s After A Trillion, Part 2

27 Aug

Move over Candy Crush, Cat Condo has taken over my life! At every available moment, I find myself playing Cat Condo as crushing candies is so passé now. I anticipated correctly last Friday that I did not have to wait long to find out what would happen if I reached beyond a trillion.

On Sunday, I was all excited when I reached 999t. And soon after, I hit a quadrillion in my fortune and true enough, a letter ‘q’ appeared after the numbers making me rich beyond imagination. And now that I have reached this figure, I will just continue to build the condo for my felines and try to unveil the remaining ten species on the list.

What’s After A Trillion?

23 Aug

Last week, I was at 3.00t, a week later, 500t. This morning, I reached 600t.

Sometimes we coin up words to exaggerate our point. Like for instance when talking about numbers – million, billion and trillion, the next word to rhyme with these denominations, chances are ‘gazillion’––which I am guilty of––is used to emphasize the sheer enormity of the amount.

But the truth is, gazillion is a made-up word, like zillion and jillion. It made me wonder what’s the correct word after trillion? It is actually quadrillion with 15 zeros after the one. It looks like this: 1,000,000,000,000,000. That’s a heckuva lot of zeros.

Maybe that’s why when I play Cat Condo, the game resorted to abbreviate my mind-boggling fortune, starting with ‘k’ for the thousands, ‘m’ for the millions and ‘b’ for the billions.

At the trillion amount with 12 zeros, my fortune as of today is just 600t. I suppose even with the biggest screen smartphone available, on a horizontal orientation, I don’t think all the zeros can fit in, so it’s logical to abbreviate.

A thought crossed my mind – at a trillion, it’s just down to three digits and a letter ’t’; so would I have a ‘q’ after the numbers if I reach a quadrillion? Hmm… the only way to find out is to continue playing! And at the rate that I am raking in my riches, I should be able to by this weekend.

A Ridiculous Fortune, Part 2

16 Aug

img_4557

My fortune playing Cat Condo has been growing astronomically! When I reached 999b, I wondered what next? Well, I didn’t have to wonder long because I reached a trillion dollars next. All this on Tuesday during my lunch break at the office. As for the cats, species #23 was unveiled, so another 17 more to go.

A mind-boggling trillion dollars, way cool for I have never been at this level in any of the games that I play on my devices. Come to think of it, in my entire life never have I reached a trillion mark ever. Wow…

By yesterday, I reached three trillion dollars and mind you, this is even after spending trillions several times the last few days to grow the place and population! I love this game.

A Ridiculous Fortune

12 Aug

It’s becoming quite an addiction playing the Cat Condo game constantly. Even during both my weekend golf games, whilst waiting to tee off each time, I’d whip out the phone to collect my fortune and build the feline abode.

The amount is mind boggling, not in thousands or millions but billions! I have never played any game before that made me such a gazillionaire with a ridiculous fortune in such a short time. And it’s a nice feeling.

As of today, I have managed to unveil 22 out of 40 species already and the condo size has grown steadily. At the rate that I am growing my fortune and using it to the fullest without going bankrupt, I may be able to unveil all by the end of the week unless I stop playing. We shall see.

30b in 15 minutes. Not bad, right?
