Going Down South

10 Oct

The timing to travel south to Johore for golf is, unfortunately, not the best with the haze. But the trip was mooted before the weather conditions changed. Oh well.

We woke up at an ungodly hour of 4.15 am to meet at the club to go on the bus. At least we don’t have to drive because there are enough people to charter a bus.

On the bus now, I can feel the impending headache. Ugh. I hope I can play decent for the afternoon tee-off at Senibong Golf Club. We will find out.

The Heat is On

6 Oct

The weather, of late, has been wonky again. It constantly flips between being hot, like a furnace, and cold, like being in the highlands when it rains. Unpredictable is what the weather is.

Playing golf in the afternoons is very taxing on the body when it’s hot. I find myself drinking more water than ever to stay hydrated. However, not all afternoons are hot, and there are days when afternoon golf can be a washout.

I’m glad I rested the last few days to allow my body to recover. Regardless of the conditions outside, I have been indoors chilling and doing nothing. It’s nice as I caught up with my reading.

Recently, there have been reports that the haze is back! The heat is on and gets to me. It becomes unbearable and uncomfortable. Sigh. I hope this won’t last; otherwise, we have no choice but to be indoors more than ever. We will have to monitor the situation.

The Heat is On, Part 2

17 Apr

It has been hot and uncomfortable these past few days. And to make matters worst, the haze is coming back! Ugh. When it is so hot, many vulnerable areas will be prone to open burning, and this will lead to the occurrence of haze. I guess donning the mask again when being outdoors is best.

We are currently experiencing a heatwave due to less rainfall. Funny how quickly situations change with a shift in the weather pattern. Thankfully this would not last because we expect rain in the next few days. But until then, I am staying indoors as much as possible.

Feeling Lost

25 Apr

M2 went off for camp on Friday and both of us felt lost. We weren’t quite sure what to do! It has been routine so far with her weekly night tuition classes but last Friday, she had to give it a miss and go off for a school-organized 3 day, 2 night camp.

And what’s with camp for schools nowadays? When I was in school, there were no such things as camp, let alone overnight excursions. I don’t remember. Then again times have changed…

So there we were, the two of us, indecisive on what to do, what to eat and where to go for the weekend. We ended up wandering aimlessly in six different malls over two days, not because we wanted to, it was more to kill time and anyway, it was too hazy to be outdoors for golf.

Imagine this was only a three day absence and we were like this. I dread the day when M2 goes off to college.

The Haze is Back. Ugh

22 Apr

Need I say more? Ugh. As if our lives are not suffering enough with the horrendous heat, we now have the haze to contend with.

Ugh.

And to top it off, we have to prepare for water rationing in 42 days as warned by the state government yesterday.

Ugh.

A Giant Furnace

5 Apr

It has been unbearably hot for us for the past few days. The atmosphere is like a giant furnace, but with extremely high humidity on top of the desert-like temperature. And this discomfort is without the haze. Imagine with the haze added, double whammy! Then again, I read somewhere the haze will be making its way to us soon. Sigh… and super sigh.

Although I did not check the temperature, it feels like it’s at least 36 degrees Celcius or more. Even when we are indoors, it’s uncomfortable.

And to think that M1 complained to me last week that with Spring here, it has been so hot for her at 20 degrees Celcius. Hah! Call that hot? Wait till you come back for your holidays!

Blue Skies!

29 Oct

It is exhilarating to finally see the sun and feel some heat. The past several days, there has been a change in the weather. Strong winds and lots of rain. The haze is slowly ebbing away, slowly but surely.

School has been back in motion with M2 studying away in preparation for the postponed final exam but golf activities are hampered by rain this time. Can’t win them all but I am not complaining. Breathing is better, vision is clearer and blue skies are here! Yay.

Hooray!

23 Oct

Today the hazy condition improved slightly and schools finally reopened. So M2 is back in school. Miraculously, strong winds did come and blew the haze up north. Hooray for us. But alas! The people in the northern region are now suffering the fate that befell us a few days ago and schools there are closed.

Well hazy or not, my virtual games progressed well. I have finally moved from the super tough Level 804 in Farm Heroes and super duper tough Level 512 in Candy Crush Soda. As for Candy Crush, hooray to say I am crowned champ yet again earlier this week!

Not a Miso or Mushroom Master but a Cosmic Commander of Marmalade Moon. And this morning, to my pleasant surprise, upon my completion of the chapter, Wonky Wonderland, I found myself crowned ‘Pastry Paladin’ for it.

Maybe that was what happened… as I became Cosmic Commander, I commanded a gale of cosmic proportions to blow the haze away while I crushed my way to become a Pastry Paladin. Lame… I know, but I couldn’t help it. Hooray nonetheless…

Not Clear and Crisp

22 Oct

The epic hazy condition continues! Schools remain closed for the fourth day consecutively, an unprecedented record. The only time school is off is when there is a holiday stretch or a scheduled break, nothing like this before.

This shows the severity of the unhealthy conditions that has enveloped the region. Just imagine, every time when I am out, especially driving, I feel the need to clean my glasses constantly because things are not clear and crisp. The opacity percentage in the atmosphere is as if someone’s fooling around with the opacity level in Photoshop. Let’s add another ten percent! Make the background building be gone! Whee….

When will our misery end?

Again?!

20 Oct

Schools are closed again today due to the worsening haze condition! Yesterday a local online news portal headlined that the haze will be here until early 2016. Oh my goodness…

This is far worst than the previous years. All this inhalation and suffocation. Maybe we need some super divine intervention more than wind?
