Staying Busy

11 Sep

OldParr2Progress in Candy Crush has hit a snag in Crunchy Courtyard. I was happy when the app finally opened in Facebook on the laptop and was quickly breezing through the levels but now find myself stuck at Level 677. Eeesh. Initially I thought it was a good alternatively to Farm Heroes when I was stuck at (the Farm’s) Level 451. But now… Sigh.

Farm Heroes’s Level 451 took me sometime to get through and when I finally did, happiness was shortlived as I got stuck at Level 454. Last week, there was so much frustration attempting these games, I decided to stop them for a breather and just stay away from my devices. Turning to my Old Parr bottles to paint, I finally completed the two bottles that I had painted the base earlier. Upon completion, I gave the bottles to my friend in exchange for another two bottles to continue this soothing activity when aggravation kicks in as far as my games are concerned.

Then, as always, when you least expect it, success! Managed to pass Level 454 but stuck at Level 460 now. Maybe I should stick to painting the four bottles that I have awaiting me.

Beautiful Brains

9 Sep

I like to call my girls all kinds of terms of endearment just for fun. Actual names are hardly used at home. Everyday when I reach home, upon opening the front door, I’d holler, “Minions! I’m home!!!” This went on for awhile, then I changed.

“Pimples! I am home!!!” or “Pimples, good night.” before bedtime.

Pimples? Well it sounds more personal than ‘people’ and it sort of rolls off the tongue.

One day, M2 complained, “Mommy, you shouldn’t call us ‘pimples’ cos I am getting a lot of it! It’s like a jinx. You should call us ‘brains’ or ‘beautiful skin’ so that we get these instead!”

Such brilliance from this child of mine.

So now the term of endearment is, “Beautiful brains! I am home!”

Childhood Food

8 Sep
I lurve Haw Flakes!!!

I lurve Haw Flakes!!!

Every now and then, I’d crave for something sweet and would go rummaging in the larder or fridge to find my stash of yummies and feed off them.

M2 calls them “Mummy’s childhood food” for these items were eaten for comfort during the dinosaur era when I was younger.

Knowing M1 doesn’t binge as much as M2, I offered only M2, “You want some?”

“Neh, not my kind of childhood food,” she stated and goes on to proclaim, “Mine are chocolate and jelly beans!” which occasionally are mine too but my childhood food are classics!

Maybe because they are classics, children nowadays do not appreciate them.

How Come I Never Got Flowers?

5 Sep

I am not a flower-loving kind of person but once a year, if I do get a single rose or a bouquet during Valentine, I’d appreciate it. But for no reason or occasion, I’d pooh-pooh at it instead.

Last week, M1 came home with a bouquet of nice smelling flowers, given by her school teachers. It was their way of thanking her for doing a good job as Head Librarian (she steps down this year) and also to wish her well for the trial exams and the eventual big exam. I have never, ever in my life received flowers from my teachers at all levels of education.

So I find this very sweet and motivating what the teachers have done for her. Now if only my teachers then did the same act, I might have done better in my exams. On second thought, if this did happen, I wouldn’t have pursued graphic design and end up doing what I am doing now.

Smell the flowers!

Smell the flowers!

Strange Updates

4 Sep

The last three updates for Candy Crush on the iPad were very strange with the earlier two saying Bonkers Bakery was opening but I don’t see it. I scrolled and look, thinking I may have missed something and even jumped over to Dreamworld to check but nothing and find myself still at the end of Fizzy Falls.

Could it be the new chapter after Fizzy Falls? On Facebook, I have completed Fizzy Falls a while back and the new chapter, Crunchy Courtyard, finally opened on Facebook last night. So Bonkers Bakery is indeed not the new one but a quick check again on Candy Crush Wiki listed Bonkers Bakery in Dreamworld. Oh well, I stopped playing Dreamworld for sometime already.

Back to Crunchy Courtyard, I quickly obtained my tickets and am now at Level 677, which is a good thing because Level 451 in Farm Heroes has proved to be the mother of all frustrations! Stuck there for so long, Candy Crush is now providing solace.

Going Away is Good

3 Sep

We got home late as expected because of traffic. The three-day weekend ended and holiday-makers, like us, made their way back to the city. Tired and happy that this golf outing was another success, we departed and said our goodbyes in high spirits.

But before the exchange of goodbyes and hugs, there was already talk of planning another trip! I was hesitant and felt that I had to ask my girls first before committing. How times have changed; a parent asking for permission from the child instead of the other way round!

The girls were happy to see us but did not jump for joy as we did not return bearing gifts. They have come to understand that our golf trips sometimes does not result in them receiving a souvenir from the place we were at. In fact, they actually enjoyed our absence. A 3D/2N trip is indeed short and does not make the heart grow fonder.

Some studying was done, school projects were worked on and a friend came over. M1 told me it was good we were away because she got quite a fair bit of school-related issues completed versus if we were to be around and nagged at them.

This is good I guess because this means the thought of no more golfing trips will no longer be an issue. Yay.

Time Flies

1 Sep

This trip, the two wake up calls are not too bad – 6.00am because firstly, RPGC is near the hotel and secondly, the tee off time at Bukit Besi is not that early unlike past trips, the wake up time was an un-Godly hours of 5.00am or earlier to allow long journeys.

I have had fun with the group. Time sure flies when one is enjoying one’s self. I detached myself from my virtual games (Candy Crush and Farm Heroes), my read (Jennifer Probst) and focused on friends and my golf. I even detach myself from my girls but with faith that they will do what they are required to do: study.

Anyway, today is our last day and by sun down, we will be home and all will be back to normal.

Another Day on the Road

31 Aug

It was a long day yesterday. Anticipating a long journey, we had to wake up at 4.30am to ready ourselves and at be at the Club by 5.30am. Everyone was prompt. By 5.50am, the 44-seater was on its way. Traffic was smooth and within an hour, we stopped for breakfast.

I thought it was a wee bit early to have wantan noodles but ate some anyway. The rest of the journey was clear. No heavy line of crawl and no masses leaving the city in exodus, our timing estimates to overcome traffic had us arriving at Royal Pahang Golf Club two hours early! But we could not tee off early because there was a shortage of buggies.

We decided to take things easy and not rush; going off only whenever a buggy comes in. In the end, I think everyone enjoyed their golf outing and had a leisurely paced game. Then off to dinner at the restaurant which was a madcap mess. They mistook us for another bus-load group and gave us their reserved tables and almost served us their food! Well, it wasn’t our fault when they asked if we came with the bus? Yes, we did but how would we know they had another group with the same exact details? Bus, booked tables… Oh well. We survived the madness and ordered our fare and had a good spread.

After checking in, everyone turned in to recover and ready for today; it will be a long journey to Bukit Besi Golf Club for the game. Today is also our country’s independence day, so I take this opportunity to wish my country, “Happy Merdeka Malaysia!”

No More Golfing Trips?

29 Aug

After my last golf trip to Kuching in July (the third for this year alone), I declared no more golfing trips. Well, I lied.

Roping hubby along, tomorrow I travel with a big group by bus to the East of the Peninsular for a short 3D/2N outing, playing three rounds of golf. Unlike the previous trips of at least 4 days, this is considered short – just 3 days.

The girls are pretty happy with us being away for we won’t be constantly breathing down their necks to prepare for their exams. As it is, M1 is sitting for her trial exam (it started yesterday) before the real big SPM exam in November, while M2 basically just have to catch up with constant revision.

While I don’t have to worry about them as the maid can take care of them, I just hope they can remain focused and prioritize what it important without getting carried away with distractions when the study police is away.

So Silly of Me

28 Aug

Of late Farm Heroes cannot be played on my iPad and I didn’t know why until two nights ago. My device was running so slow as if it’s low on juice. A quick check on the Monitor app (something I should have done earlier) showed that I had 7Gb free memory left to run. No wonder the iPad was so slow! And it has not been turned off for the last 42 days. Totally drained.

So I did a complete switch off, counted to ten and switched it on again.

And out of the blue, I tried Farm Heroes again and tadaa! The app works fine now. I never knew… so silly of me. Looks like the iPhone4 goes back to the bedside.
