The Shoe Queen, Part 3

28 Jan

The Shoe Queen in me struck and I bought another pair of golf shoes on Monday when we went shopping. Unbelievable. My last pair, the Skechers, bought not too long ago is still in good condition but I couldn’t resist this latest one, an Adidas Adicross. It’s adorable plus it was on sale.

At the rate that I am buying golf shoes, I am certain it has surpassed my collection of heels and work shoes. Then again, when I wear Skechers to work, my other work shoes are hardly used. And also, when one has a pair of classic Ferragamo Vara, one does not buy any other shoes. And when there’s also another Ferragamo Artiste heels, there is no need for further purchases.

Except maybe for golf shoes…

I Could Get Used to This

26 Jan

It was another three-day weekend (the first being the New Year stretch) as yesterday was a replacement holiday for Thaipusam which was celebrated on Sunday. But going somewhere is just not viable especially when it is only two weeks away to Chinese New Year. So we went about doing our stuff over the three days.

I got most of my Chinese New Year preparation done, played a round of golf, had a massage, went shopping and basically enjoyed the three day break with hubby and M2. M2 completed her art assignment, reproducing an existing packaging and I think she did a good job!

I also caught up with my virtual games, bull-dozing my way from Level 1460 (Divine Diner, Episode 98) into Dessert Desert for Candy Crush and 844 for Monster Blasters. However, still stuck at Level 854 for Farm Heroes, 603 for Soda and 56 for Jelly. But I’m not worried.

Come next week, we will be having yet another three-day weekend because Monday is another public holiday. Back-to-back three-day breaks! I could get used to this. Am pretty sure those stuck levels will be a thing of the past by the time next weekend comes along.

We get to eat the Kit-Kat after this!

No Fun Being Stuck

21 Jan

It’s no fun when the progress on my virtual games are halted. I am not such a hero at Farm Heroes, stuck at Level 854 for sometime now, my jelly ability still at the lowly Level 43 but I managed to cross it this morning, with the reluctant aid of a precious lollipop and my Soda at Level 600.

I’ve stopped playing the Flower Blast and Zookeeper. Too many to keep up, I must admit!

Luckily the original Candy Crush offered some respite, moving on without any frustration and now at Level 1436. Same goes for Monster Blasters, smooth progression. And I find calmness in Piano Tiles despite looking possessed sometimes, thumping on my iPad furiously when I play some of the faster paced songs.

A New Game

18 Jan

Two Fridays ago, I discovered a new King.com game. The app icon appeared in the corner of Candy Crush while I was crushing candies as usual. So the sucker in me downloaded Candy Crush Jelly, another candy crushing game.

Unbelievable. Between all the candies, the farm animals, monsters, flowers and Piano Tiles, looks like I will be a very busy person! And I have also started reading.

I was indeed kept busy, crushing my way through all that candies and rescuing some farm animals and monsters too, besides being a recluse at home last week. For the record, I am at Level 1424 for Candy Crush, Level 591 for Soda, Level 854 for Farm Heroes, Level 825 for Monsters and a lowly 43 only for Candy Crush Jelly.

Quite the Movie Buff

7 Jan

Within a week, we became quite the movie buff! The three of us watched Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Peanuts Movie last week; and on Tuesday, hubby and I watched Ip Man 3 with some friends after dinner.

I think this is by far our best run. Three movies within such a short time span. Dad, the movie buff, would be proud of me finally catching his trait.

First Day

4 Jan

It’s the first day for everything in 2016, school for M2, work for us and classes for M1 too except that her first day will be our tomorrow, being half way around the world from us.

It was a quiet start for me, with the laryngitis still persisting. I went and played golf on Saturday hoping maybe a sweat will work wonders. It did somewhat, some sound can be heard when I speak. But I think it was mostly a good rest over the long break that did the trick.

I am still thinking about the book to read to kick off the year but I am very pleased that my virtual games all progressed very well. Levels that I was stuck at were finally overcomed and it feels good.

Looking forward to a good year ahead!

Argh… Why?

8 Dec

It’s upsetting when I used up my precious gold bars in an attempt to pass a level and failed. Argh. Level 1316 is really tough! I was so close yet so far.

With the four cherries almost towards the bottom, I used my 9 precious gold bars for the extra five moves but I failed.

I don’t normally purchase gold bars, I get them occasionally after collecting enough sugar drops to win boosters, so to waste them like this, it’s painful.

And upsetting. Argh…

Overcoming Hard Levels

3 Dec

Sometimes when I am stuck at my games and cannot figure out how to go pass that level, especially the two candy games, I would go to YouTube to see what or how others have done to tackle the challenge. Recently, Candy Crush added a ‘Hard Level’ mention and Soda added a skull icon to levels that are really hard.

Maybe to preempt or remind one that it will be tough? In one way, it helps because I now know that it will be hard and I won’t feel so aggravated. Then again with the skull, it’s as if it’s telling you, you’re gonna die trying, bwahahaha!

Mean, isn’t it? When all attempts fail, either I YouTube for help or stay away from the games for a few days.

I was stuck for the longest time at Level 813 for Farm Heroes, Level 516 for Soda and Level 1242 for Saga but thanks to YouTube, I became unstuck and have progressed on. But now I find myself stuck again at Level 829 for Farm Heroes, Level for 563 for Soda and 1313 for Saga. Never-ending woes…

Ugh! Nasty

30 Nov

King.com is nasty. They make the levels in Candy Crush different on different devices! I did not realize this until over the weekend when I attempted Level 1306.

On the iPad, the challenge was to get 3 cherries in 35 moves but in Facebook on the laptop, it required just 2 cherries and 50 moves! No wonder I have been stuck here for so long. Eesh.

Finally made it.

Wonderful Times

27 Nov

The holiday season is here for Christmas shopping and a ‘Toys R Us’ catalog came in the mail recently. It was fun to look at the pictures of the offerings the toy store has for this year. It also brought back memories of when I first worked on a ‘Toys R Us’ catalog when I was an intern in New York City.

A semester prior, I had engineered an opportunity (before graduation) for a summer internship at WBMG, Inc. in New York City. The time, both in New York City and at WBMG, was exciting and the experience priceless. I had the privilege to work with Walter Bernard and his excellent team of designers as well as being counselled by Milton Glaser. My Polaroid picture is still on their website after all these years! (hint: look out for the bright green tee shirt and big glasses me!)

The project was to design a catalog for Toys R Us among other projects. During that time, the studio also redesigned Adweek, which I also assisted and eventually led to a full time job with the magazine.

Ahh… Such wonderful memories. Would I turn back time now to relive it? A definite yes! Do I regret leaving it? Well, no. I know this is contradictory to my earlier yes to turning back time but my life now is equally wonderful, with my two precious M1 and M2. So I will leave it as memories are meant to be made and cherished. Time and life is meant to be lived, move on and go on.
