Snail Mail is Dead

10 Feb

Last week we received a postcard from my sibling and wife when they visited New Zealand… in December!

My goodness. It was mid-December when they left for their vacation. The pretty postcard was postmarked 15 December, two days into their time there. And we received the postcard on 6 February! Wow.

Snail mail is indeed dead if it takes this long to arrive at its destination.

If I Had Known Earlier

9 Feb

I couldn’t stand the fact that I have progressed for Candy Crush but not Farm Heroes. It was most annoying. So I decided to google up on some cheats (farmheroescheats.com) to pass Level 653.

The strategy was to work on the bottom level so that the top cascades down to open up the clams without wasting any moves. I tried this tactic and after several tries, I finally succeeded! Yay.

If I had known earlier, I should have done this a long time ago instead of allowing this aggravation to last this long.

Maybe I should do the same (look up some cheats) with Candy Crush Soda for Level 185? Hmm…

Mushroom Head

6 Feb

As Chinese New Year is just around the corner, getting a haircut is one of the preparations. I visited my stylist three days ago, seven weeks from the last visit (I go for my haircut every six to seven weeks). For someone with short hair, that’s a lot of trips to the hairdresser in a year compared to the two girls with long hair. They have their haircut twice or maybe three times a year.

Whenever I come back with my usual short hairdo, it hardly gets noticed and when the girls do notice, they’d say,”Oh. You got your mushroom head!”

Eeesh.

This time, thank goodness they did not pass the mushroom head comment but instead admired the new color of the hair.

Not Stuck on You

5 Feb

Candy Crush has been relatively easy. I completed Caramel Clearing rather quickly, the chapter after Fudge Fjord and have gone on to the next one, Candy Calaboose.

However, the same (ease) cannot be said for the other two games. I have been stucked at Level 653 for my Farm Heroes and Level 185 for Candy Crush Soda for a while now. Hopefully I can make some progress before the Lunar New Year comes around.

Celebration After Celebration

3 Feb

Today is yet another public holiday, celebrating Thaipusam, but it feels like a weekend because we lined up activities that we normally reserve for the weekend. We did not want to stay in Penang until today knowing we will be caught in a big traffic jam upon our return, hence the journey back yesterday.

The next big festivity coming up is Chinese New Year or the Lunar New Year. It is approaching fast and there isn’t much time left to prepare for it. I should be doing my New Year shopping but as always, am procrastinating. It’s the same every year, Queen of last minute.

I may go fight with the crowd this coming weekend to settle the preparations once and for all.

One Last Char Koay Teow!

2 Feb

We went in search for one last Char Koay Teow. I wouldn’t say ridiculous but when you are on a food trail, you have to go to extremes to satisfy the urge.

But it had to be along the way and convenient for us when we leave the island. So we ended up going to the Foodcourt in Sunshine Square at Bayan Baru. After the meal, it was just an easy drive towards the second Penang Bridge, the longest bridge in Southeast Asia.

The last Char Koay Teow was good, according to the girls. We also had Curry Fish Head and Bak Kut Teh. Satisfied and contented with this successful gastronomic adventure, we look forward to another foodie adventure in the near future!

Penang: Goodbye

2 Feb

Today’s our last day in the island city. We loved it! Hubby’s sister has been a great host; the sights we saw were cool and the food we ate were totally awesome and authentic.

I am glad we took this time to spend some quality time with the girls. Pretty soon we won’t have such occasions anymore; so any opportunity that arises, we ought to take it.

We woke up late this morning, skipped breakfast but planned for another round of Char Koay Teow before we make our way to the new second link to head back home.

Until our next trip, thanks Penang!

What to Do Besides Eat

1 Feb

This trip to Penang, we actually saw more and ate more things than before. Previously it has always been only the resort with its pool, beach and sun; this time it’s different food and sights that we never put a priority to.

Today after brunch, we visited the 3D Museum. It was cool. With thematic paintings cleverly spread out in the premise, we saw many people creatively posed to make an interesting composition. We did our fare share of posing too, I must admit.

All in all, our three days in Penang has been wonderful. Tonight we meet hubby’s old college mate for yet another meal!

I dread my weighing scale complaining when I get home and step on it. Oh well, I am on holiday. Eat well and live well.

Late Lunch

1 Feb

We had more desert than a real lunch: Assam Laksa, Ice Kacang with Nutmeg, Cendul and Fried Popiah.

Char Koay Teow

1 Feb

We stopped at New World Park for brunch. Undecided with the choices available, we ended up ordering several variations of Char Koay Teow.

From the normal, there was also no chili, less chili and with duck egg instead. We actually also ordered Curry Mee, Tee Nya Kuih and Chai Kueh. So many orders?

Well, hubby’s sister and parents were with us.

Satisfying until the next meal! Good start to the day.
