NCAA March Madness 2024, Part 2

9 Apr

The NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship is over, and my prediction fell flat. Hahaha. My earlier choices to advance to the Finals did not survive the Sweet Sixteen and Final Four stages.

And the team that I was rooting for in the Finals were not the champions. A heartache for the best player to end her college basketball career, but that’s life. Like golf, the ball is round, and anything can happen. Regardless, she has my utmost respect and awe.

A whole new world awaits some of these talented young ladies who are Seniors and graduating. The prospect of playing professionally in the WNBA looks good, and the women’s basketball league has never been more exciting!

I relish my renewed interest in women’s college basketball and look forward to the March Madness next year.

NCAA March Madness 2024

5 Apr

The NCAA March Madness 2024 is here and almost ending. I lost interest in it the last two years because M1’s alma mater has not been playing well. However, the Beavers’ women’s basketball team fared better this year and made it to the Elite 8 stage. Woo hoo.

My prediction bracket burst in the early stages of the women’s basketball championship. And I got it right for one side only of the Sweet Sixteen stages, and the rest were so off. Oh well.

As for the men’s championship, I don’t follow it as much, so there’s no surprise that my predictions all went awry at all stages except one half of the Elite 8 stage. Oh well, again.

Only two out of four of my selections made the women’s Final Four. But it doesn’t matter who wins the NCAA Championship this year. To me, every team is a winner for the level of play thus far. I feel the adrenaline rush and am in awe of the records created, watching the game recaps and highlights on YouTube.

The women’s championship game is slated for this Sunday, and may the best team win!

March Madness All Over Again, Part 2

The 2019 NCAA Basketball Tournament is drawing to a close soon. The better seeded teams lived up to their billing in the Sweet 16 round of this year’s Women’s Division 1 basketball. Unfortunately, M1’s university did not make it pass this round. Their best performance was in 2016 when they made it to the Final Four.

This year, my prediction picks for the Women’s Division 1 were spot on for three out of the four that qualified for the Final Four. May the best team wins!

And now that M1 has completed her undergrad studies, I am indecisive if I will continue to follow basketball, her alma mater or even the NCAA thereafter. Also because M2 being in Ireland, basketball is not a big thing at her college, the interest in the game may diminish once the NCAA concludes. We shall see. After all, there are still some good teams out there to follow.

March Madness All Over Again

19 Mar

March is the month for sports that I enjoy. There’s the golf Iron Challenge at my club at the end of the month which I am preparing for and then, there’s the college basketball NCAA Tournament which has started after the regular season ended.

This is the fourth year I am following the March Madness schedule and putting my two cents worth to predict the winners for both the men and women’s games in the draw.

M1’s university has made it to the NCAA Women’s Division 1 bracket again. For the third consecutive year, six Pac-12 teams made it. And of course, I will be rooting for her school. The first round games start this Saturday.

March Madness

21 Mar

I find it amazing that I am following the college basketball NCAA Tournament for the first time this year. Maybe because M1’s university qualified for it. What’s even more amazing is that M1 has also picked up interest for the game, having not shown any inkling of interest in it prior. You can say she’s addicted to the point of getting the autographs of the team players on her tickets, her cap and T-shirt.

When I was younger, I was quite a basketball fan and player. Dad was very involved in the game, being a coach and it was only natural that my sibling and I played too, representing our schools respectively. I even went for basketball camp at the National level.

But when I got to college, the NAU Lumberjacks were sadly not that impressive and over the years, my interest in the game waned until recently. It picked up again with renewed support for the game and the Women’s team of M1’s university. They have had a very impressive record this year, coming out tops in their division and qualifying for the NCAA Championship March Madness.

Today as they battle to get into the third round, I find myself following the game nervously.

Go gals!
