Guess What?

20 Apr

We decided to take a break from life and are now in Hua Hin, Thailand for some golfing fun with our regular buddies. Yesterday we departed from KLIA. Playing two rounds in Hua Hin and then back to Bangkok for one round, this has been a much anticipated trip. Thanks (again) to cuegolf.com for their services in providing us excellent golf experiences.

M2 had been prepped prior to our trip and she is fine. The maid will take care of her. And with WhatsApp and Skype, we are reachable. In fact, M1 said she will Skype her to keep her company despite the different time zones that they are both in.

It was a long day of travel with delays at takeoff, touch down, followed by baggage coming out and traffic on a Sunday evening. Ahh… Well, we are not in a hurry, after all we are on holiday.

Dinner was at a leisurely pace before we arrived and checked in at midnight.

Black Mountain Golf Club awaits us for our first game today. Looking forward to it despite only four hours of sleep.

Anxiety and Relief

23 Mar

It’s hard to drive when one has blurry puffy eyes. Thank goodness hubby was much stronger and did not shed freely at the farewell like me and M2. After we hugged M1 for the last time and said our goodbyes, there was much anxiety that followed the heavy heart. Until we hear from her only the anxiety went away and relief set in.

My neighbor saw us when we got home on Saturday night and called me. She insisted I should go over and have some wine, which turned out to be a good thing. Looking at my miserable state, she consoled me. At the same time, she welcomed me to this phase of life when the children would leave home for their tertiary education, gently reminding me she experienced this twice with her children and totally understands my emotions.

The wine helped dull the heavy ache and provided a good buzz to sleep. But I managed only four hours of uncomfortable rest. Anxiety.

By Sunday morning, we managed to Skype her when she was in transit at Incheon and again, at Narita; it was good to hear her voice. But we had to wait longer before we heard from her again when she did the final leg of the journey.

Her journey was approximately 24 hours of flying with the two transit stop-overs but not counting the time to clear immigrations and customs, followed by a 90-minute bus ride to campus. By the time she arrived at campus and checked into the dorm, it would be another good six hours added on to the journey. How tiring!

Last night, I tracked her aircraft on flightaware.com and was able to monitor the flight path and ETA. Amazing what technology can do these days. Thankful that she arrived safely and on schedule, and with both immigrations and customs cleared without a hitch, hubby and I can breathe easier. Relief.

M1’s life as a freshman at university officially has begun!

I Need a Box of Tissues

21 Mar

Time flew by so fast, it’s heart wrenching. We have another hour before M1 goes through the gates. I started tearing when we left the house.

And sniffed all the way during the hour long journey to the airport. Every now and then, the dam would break. I really need a box of tissues!

The last time I cried this much was when I was reading David Baldacci’s One Summer novel. It is not so much of sadness but a sense of heaviness in the heart. Letting go is tough. Everyone tells me I have to accept it but it’s tough.

I can feel puffy eyes developing; definitely will have them by tomorrow if not by midnight when we go home.

Where’s the Screen?

5 Dec

We took off from KLIA twenty minutes behind schedule. It was a full flight. As always, the girls would sit in the same side with me and hubby in the next row, away from us.

The aircraft was obviously an old one when we buckled up.

“Where’s the screen?” M2 asked.

There was no little screen in front of our seats; no entertainment then. Boo hoo…

Oh well, it’s not a long flight. Soon we will be in Bangkok and that is more important than entertainment on board.

Sadly, service was not up to standard. It was very rushed and disorganized. Thankfully time flew by pretty fast and I could feel the cabin pressure change. We are descending into Bangkok! Yay…

I Love Bangkok

5 Dec

I love Thailand and Bangkok, this is a fact. This year alone, I’ve visited Thailand thrice, covering Chiangmai, Krabi and now Bangkok with the girls; the girls’ first time to this wonderful city after Krabi in October recently.

We enjoy Bangkok very much for its food, golf courses and shopping. And I’ve always wanted to share my experiences with the girls so that they can understand what the country is all about and see the reason why mommy and daddy visits every year. Bangkok’s offering in colors, tastes and sights are just so enriching and amazing, I just hope the girls will enjoy and appreciate it as much as we do.

We are at KLIA now, waiting for our 12.25pm departure.

Onward to Our Desination

3 Oct

Hubby and I decided to fly Malaysia Airlines to show our support and solidarity with the airline. With the recent two tragedies, we try in our little way to support the national carrier.

Departure was on time and soon, the 737 was descending into Krabi. Whee…

The minute the plane stopped on the tarmac, you can feel the excitement. However, once we got on the bus and into the terminal, the skies opened up and rain came pouring down.

Uh-oh. Not a good start to a sunny holiday. To make matters worse, it was chaotic inside the terminal. There was no proper queue and the passengers just kept piling in. Hmm… a good time to practice patience. After all, we are supposed to be on holiday and shouldn’t be rushing.

The villa is not going to run away.

The Pesky Mosquito

3 Oct

I had set my alarm for 7.00am last night but the pesky lone mosquito woke me up at 5.00am and again at 6.00am. By 6.30am, I was wide awake. Oh well, I might as well wake up.

Yes it’s only Friday but we decided to make the long three-day weekend into a four day escapade by skipping school and work! The bags were all packed last night, the girls are excited and we are ready.

We are at KLIA now, waiting to board. Yay.

Here I Go Again!

4 Jul

I don’t know why the Whitesnake song, “Here I Go Again” popped into my head as I get ready to go on yet another golf excursion. I suppose the ‘Here I Go Again’ is apt considering this is my third golfing trip this year. Hardly a drifter like the song implied, this time, I am traveling in a big group. 28 people to be precise, myself included, unlike my previous trips with a much smaller group.

The people are not strangers but friends and all members of our golf club and we are off to Kuching, Sarawak. It is rather exciting for me for several reasons.

Firstly, the group. Mostly golf buddies but going for a trip together for the first time. It will be interesting. The second being, to Kuching. I’ve never been to that side of the country before and it will definitely be an eye-opener for me on top of an enriching experience, I hope.

And thirdly, heading out via KLIA2 (instead of KLIA or LCCT), the spanking new gargantuan airport. I hear it’s akin to an airport in a shopping mall with offerings that will dazzle the daylights out of anyone and everyone.

All in all, I am looking forward to the getaway, bonding with my 27 fellow golfers and 3 rounds of golf.

Home Sweet Home

16 Dec

We went to the airport last night to fetch M1. She was due to touchdown at 7.55pm. Ten days had gone by really fast. During that time, we only heard from her a handful of times as the host family that she was staying with does not have wifi, nor the places that she visited. Basically, contact was occasional but we were not worried.

Her last SMS to me that Sunday morning stated that she will see us in 9 hours. Methinks she can’t wait to come home. I tried to not to keep looking at the clock yesterday, keeping busy meeting some friends, even having lunch with my mother and later, doing some paperwork.

The airport is a place of only two emotions, hubby commented when we arrived at KLIA – one of happiness and the other of sadness. And most times, in opposites in the Departure Hall and Arrival Hall. We stood at the Arrival Hall observing returning travelers and it was interesting to note the many facial expressions and body language of mixed emotions.

Ah! There she is. A smile splits her face, a happy feeling surged in us and a sense of completeness enveloped me. My baby is finally home.

Tired from the long day, enriched from the exposure and experiences for the last ten days, maybe wiser and definitely happy, nothing beats the best feeling of knowing you’re finally home, and home sweet home awaits.

Welcome back M1!

Here I Go Again

5 Nov

The phone call came close to two months ago. I was in the midst of a discussion with my team of designers when the invite was thrown at me if I’d like to join for an upcoming golfing trip. Ooh… It was so tempting. The discussion had to be halted and a quick decision had to be made.

Right after the quick decision and some back and forth, the number 54 was somehow stuck in my head when I outlined the itinerary on TripIt to share with the whole group. This was the number of days until the trip.

Fast forward to today. Where did 54 days go?

So here I am sitting in the Premier Lounge with partial of the group (there’s 11 of us) laughing and carefree, enjoying the benefits of the lounge at KLIA before boarding. The group is not new in friendship as mentioned before but new for me in traveling together with them. My previous overseas golf excursions has always included hubby and just another couple. This time, the numbers are bigger.

There’s 3 couples and 5 ladies, myself included. At the eleventh hour, the 12th person pulled out due of work commitment that was unavoidable. It was too late to get a replacement and our golf tour coordinator, cuegolf.com, was very efficient and professional to readjust things for us.

So Thailand, here we come!
