I Love Bangkok

5 Dec

I love Thailand and Bangkok, this is a fact. This year alone, I’ve visited Thailand thrice, covering Chiangmai, Krabi and now Bangkok with the girls; the girls’ first time to this wonderful city after Krabi in October recently.

We enjoy Bangkok very much for its food, golf courses and shopping. And I’ve always wanted to share my experiences with the girls so that they can understand what the country is all about and see the reason why mommy and daddy visits every year. Bangkok’s offering in colors, tastes and sights are just so enriching and amazing, I just hope the girls will enjoy and appreciate it as much as we do.

We are at KLIA now, waiting for our 12.25pm departure.

The Bags are Packed! Part 2

5 Dec

I don’t know what happened but my Zookeeper Battle app is not functioning at all on the iPad! Cannot launch at all since last night. But the game (and the other games) would have to take a backseat for now. We are to leave the house at 9.00am sharp to avoid the morning highway jam. You never know what’s ahead (in traffic) when you have a flight to catch!

Hubby and I decided to fly Malaysia Airlines (MH) again, for practicality as far as luggages are concerned. If we opt for the budget AirAsia, every single add on comes at a cost in comparison to the full service MH where all things are included. Sometimes the difference can be minimal or not much, it is better then to go with a full fledge airline to avoid the hassle. Traveling with children is always best with the full service choice.

Where are we going? Aha! Stay tuned…

The Bags are Packed!

4 Dec

M1’s SPM exam is finally over. Yesterday was the last of it. Phew! It’s been exactly a month and frankly, I would have died enduring the length of the exam. Thank goodness she prevailed and we all survived. To celebrate the end of it, we are all going away for a much deserved holiday! So the bags are packed, we are ready, come tomorrow, off we go!

I can’t wait. Whee…

Hotel Pillows Suck

28 Oct

Sometime back I read an article on CNN (http://edition.cnn.com/2013/08/27/travel/hotel-pillows/index.html) about hotel pillows and thought about my habit of bringing a travel pillow along.

Whenever I travel and wherever it may be, I am guilty of bringing my travel pillow along. But I am sure I am not the only one with this idiosyncrasy. While some hotel/resort offerings are nice and comfortable for our enjoyment, the comfort of the offered pillow is just too critical. It can make or break the vacation happiness. I dare say my faithful pillow has clocked in some impressive mileage along with me.

You can give me foam, memory, contoured, down-filled with goose or chicken feathers for all I care, my travel pillow takes the shine out of the hotel’s star rating.

Does this mean hotel pillows suck? Yep, at least for me, regardless of the 3-, 4- or even 5-stars accorded.

The Taste of Fall

16 Oct

It’s amazing what one can find from Tesco. On our third day in Krabi recently—when it rained and we had to alter our activity plans—we checked out Tesco Lotus. We found Pepperidge Farm’s Caramel Apple Pie cookies, a flavor we never saw (or noticed) in the grocery stores back home. So we bought it and brought it back.

Several nights later after the holiday, we decided to eat it.

“Mummy, before you ask for the cookies, let me ask you something,” M2 started off and then continued, “Have you ever wondered what Fall tastes like?”

“Fall has a taste? I never knew,” I replied, somewhat amused.

“These cookies. They taste like Fall!” quipped my second child.

“Aren’t they awesome?” she rolled her eyes in bliss as she took a bite and shared the rest of the cookie with me.

I’m not sure if one can taste the Fall season. Either the packaging design is effective to evoke her reminiscing of Fall or she’s seen something like this on the internet, it’s hard to tell. I have to find out one of these days.

As for cookie, it tasted just like a cookie to me.

Goodbye Krabi!

6 Oct

The flight was delayed; departing 25 minutes past the scheduled take off time. I am not complaining for we are seated in Business class and very comfortable in the spacious seat without having to worry for arm space.

I think I will nap and mentally prepare myself to accept the fact that the holiday is over and tomorrow I have to be in the office. Sigh…

System Down

6 Oct

The was a power failure last night. The fan went off and it got hot. But when I awoke, the power came back. However, the wifi has been down. It’s our last day at the villa.

We made some new friends with the owner and staff of Villa Thalanena. We have had such a great time and already I am plotting another trip soon, if not to Krabi, at least to Thailand again especially after M1’s big exam.

The final touch to the trip is going home by Business Class! Hubby has outdone himself for us this time. Thank you dear.

Serenaded by Bull Frogs!

5 Oct

We came back to the villa, serenaded by bull frogs. I must admit, even for me, I have never heard such an orchestra, let alone both my city girls. There’s at least five to six of them and they sound like they are blowing horns.

Despite the rain that has washed out the last three days of our time in Krabi, we have enjoyed ourselves immensely without hurry and worry. A time to be treasured, I would say Villa Thalanena has been extremely pleasant. My Sunseeker bikini unfortunately never saw the sun and I remain uneven in my tan lines. Perhaps the next trip, we have to be more mindful of the weather. But until that happens, I am glad we did this trip as a family.

Tomorrow we leave this place with happy memories but we will definitely be back again because we still have that island trip to do, remember?

Change of Plans

5 Oct

We lunched at Akanak Resort and watched the intermittent rain, glad in a way we are not caught in the rain or stranded on an island. I don’t think it’s fun this way.

Our driver is a good host, planning our menu again for dinner. We didn’t have to worry what and where to eat, it’s all taken care of. Then instead of just sitting around, we decided to go shopping. After all, we have the umbrellas with us to walk the streets if the rain is just a slight drizzle. If it gets any heavier, we can always go to Tesco! Hahahaha…

We ended up at Jee-or Souvenir Shop. The girls bought souvenirs for their friends. Nothing caught my fancy because firstly, I’ve collected enough Thai souvenirs and secondly I have Krabi fridge magnets already. The weather continues to be threatening with another downpour as we head into Krabi town.

The next stop being Outlet Village. Nothing interesting so we moved on and ended up at Tesco Lotus! Heheh… Told you we will come here.

Well, what else can we do and where else can we go in this rained out situation? Everyone did not mind as we filled the trolley with junk food! And being silly showing off our DQ Blizzards.

In the end, I think the day went well and now we head back to the villa, satisfied and happy.

Killing Time, Part 2

5 Oct

There was a short little burst of sunlight after breakfast so we took that opportunity to walk to the nearby beach. The girls managed to comb the beach for some pretty shells while I made use of whatever sun there is to attempt to soak up some rays. But I don’t think it is working.

Hubby spotted the fast approaching rain from the horizon and quickly we packed up to head back to the villa. Thank goodness we brought the four umbrellas along for it poured before we reached the villa. Another washed out day.

Any thoughts of going to the island is now squashed as the driver advised us even the boatman is against it with choppy waters ahead. Safety over adventure is more important, one has to remember this.

Feeling sorry for us, our driver brought us to their neighboring sister resort, Akanak Resort, for a drink and a change in surrounding. We have all the time in the world now. So a Singha each, we might as well practice patience and just enjoy killing time.
