Two Blind Fish

19 Apr

Looking at the two Bettas, I couldn’t help myself as the ‘Three Blind Mice’ tune popped into my head; only that it isn’t three blind mice but two blind fish. So here’s my ode to them (to the tune of Three Blind Mice) in my attempt to be poetic about the situation.

Two blind fish. Two blind fish

See how they rest. See how they rest

They try to swim when I look at them

Who ate their eyes with such devious plan

Did you ever see such a sight in your life

As two blind fish?

This is HobNob’s

This is Bobinsky

Little House of Horror

18 Apr

Last night M2 discovered in horror that the two remaining Bettas, HobNob’s and Bobinsky are both blind! OMG. How did this happened? Are they that vicious that they have to take each other’s eyes out literally?

It was a while back when we noticed HobNob’s was blinded in one eye. But not anymore. Now it’s blinded in two eyes. And not only that, Bobinsky is also blinded in both eyes.

No wonder they have been rather inactive of late. Last week, we lost Phish to dropsy and now this. This is really terrible. After Svetlana’s demise, the little aquarium is becoming a little house of horror.

Guess I Have to Wait

15 Apr

I have finally played until the end of another game, Monster Busters Hexa Blast. Just like my earlier candy crushing days being ahead for Candy Crush, I was at it faster than the app being updated.

So what do I do besides waiting for the update for Hexa Blast? I play the original Monster Busters! But I hope my wait won’t be too long.

A Surprise!

14 Apr

Guess what? A few days ago, we discovered one of the Bettas is pregnant! And all this while we thought all of them were male fishes. Obviously it is not HobNob’s, the one with one eye blinded. It’s Phish.

Its tummy is just so bloated and looking ready to explode. If you look closely at the tummy, there seems to be a white dot, I assume an egg, as if it is trying to come out.

But the poor thing looks like it is suffering, floating at awkward angles. Hubby said due to its tail being gnawed at by the other two (they are fighting fishes after all) causing her to lose her balance, her survival is critical. We will have to monitor closely.

Sadly, things did not turn out okay. Phish left us this morning, joining Svetlana and the many others in pet heaven. Bye Phish… you will be missed. Sniffle…

A Different Kind of Celebration

12 Apr

April is a special month. Not only it is the month of my birthday, it is also Mom’s and the twins’ birthdays. Dad was also an April baby.

Typically every year, it would just be a sit down dinner around town especially for Mom’s birthday followed by coffee and dessert at home. This year, we opted for a different kind of celebration. Combining all three birthdays for a one-day celebration, we had a really enjoyable time.

The evening started off with a Japanese buffet with a slight twist. We had to grill our own order which was quite time consuming but fun. The grill setup was smoke free, the choices pretty good and we chose what we fancied. I felt like a lion that night, consuming all that protein.

After the sumptuous meal, we were all ready… for bowling! Told you it would be different.

And you know what? I am terrible at it! I was consistently getting a dash for one of the two bowl attempts in each and every frame, it was almost embarrassing. Even Mom chuckled at my ability or should I say, inability.

After two rounds of bowling, everyone was pumped from the excitement but tired plus it was getting late. We then headed to my sibling’s for the birthday cake.

This year, we all shared a cake. My niece took pains to bake a four colored cheese cake until the wee hours of the morning. She said each color was to represent each of us, which was really sweet and thoughtful.

The zesty lemon cheesecake was good. Not only I had seconds, I had three helpings. Burp…

Today is Mom’s actual special day, so Happy birthday Mom, happy belated birthday twins and happy advanced birthday me!

Beef? Bacon? Prawns? No problem!

Colorful bowling balls

Pink, Orange, Green and Blue, one color for each!

Painful

11 Apr

Painful is when you grip your golf clubs too tightly and hit shots that become forced and errant. This hurts the fingers, hands, muscles and mind. Painful is also watching the 2016 80th Masters Tournament leader self-imploded, throwing the lead away and ultimately the championship.

Golf is a very mental and painful game.

Numbers are Bad

8 Apr

I can’t believe that I have become so  into the number game, 1010. With a high score of 5708 on my iPad, I have been trying to break my best achievement. Almost every night, I stay up beyond 1.00am playing it, it’s bad!

So much so, I have even forsaken my regular dose of candies, monsters and farm animals. Amazing.

Get It Right

7 Apr

People who cannot pronounce my name properly shouldn’t be calling me to solicit for an appointment or whatsoever. It peeves me to no end when I get such phone calls. Same goes for people whom I don’t know, calls and pronounces my name correctly but tends to be fake and over enthusiastic in their conversation, irks me to no end.

My fitness and spa center called me two days ago and I was addressed as “Aggie”. Gawd… Obviously it’s someone new; I bristled and declined to make an appointment.

I have been inadvertently called ‘Angel’, ‘Angela’, ‘Agnes’, spelled as ‘N-G’ and ‘Angle’ (the result of the smart phone’s auto-correct ability and the not-very smart user to rectify), and now this. Eeesh… Why?

It’s not like I have a coined up name (remember Qalvin?), some exotic name or difficult spelling one. Let’s not even go into having my first initial to be the same as my last name, like that ‘K’ ‘klan’… I mean clan.

Get it right, people, it’s just a simple ‘Angie’, spelled ‘A-N-G-I-E’ and pronounced as ‘Ann-Gee’.

A Giant Furnace

5 Apr

It has been unbearably hot for us for the past few days. The atmosphere is like a giant furnace, but with extremely high humidity on top of the desert-like temperature. And this discomfort is without the haze. Imagine with the haze added, double whammy! Then again, I read somewhere the haze will be making its way to us soon. Sigh… and super sigh.

Although I did not check the temperature, it feels like it’s at least 36 degrees Celcius or more. Even when we are indoors, it’s uncomfortable.

And to think that M1 complained to me last week that with Spring here, it has been so hot for her at 20 degrees Celcius. Hah! Call that hot? Wait till you come back for your holidays!

Hanging in There

4 Apr

Every now and then, I look at the little aquarium and find that HobNob’s is still alive. Feeling thankful, I am glad our little friend is hanging in there.

Maybe moving away from the death corner has helped and definitely with the support of the other two, there’s reason for him to go on living.
