Treasures Found

9 Jan

With M2 and her cousin in my office, I was kept busy. During their first two weeks, I shared with them some basic graphic design knowledge just so they understand what we really do. Hubby, for his part, taught them office administrative duties. Then the next two weeks, both girls worked on emptying my store room that has accumulated twenty years’ of printed work! Along the way, they found some treasures: photos from the pre-digital era!

Oh. My. God. Such classics – our wedding photo, M1 when she was a toddler, bad hair days captured in time, the twins when they were young, my Dad. The two girls certainly had a good laugh over these antiques while I was pleasantly surprised they found them.

It made me realize we should make a stronger effort to take better care of printed photographs. Not only that, we should have some favorite pictures framed and put on display to remind us of the treasured moments. Otherwise it will be forgotten.

As we are now in the digital age, a lot of moments are captured but never printed. They are then stored in a mobile device, hard drive, computer or iCloud and hardly looked at again. It is always put off for when we ‘have time’ to do so.

Think about it, how often do you find yourself scrolling or searching your device looking for that one particular treasured moment? Sometimes you cannot even find it from the thousands of photos stored! How would someone else know what treasures you store in the photo album of your device? Nobody knows except you. This whole scenario makes me rethink my life in all the photos captured digitally.

It was a good decision then to have them clean out the store room for we may have totally lost these forgotten classic photos.

Are Journals Dead?

8 Jan

It is several days into the new year and every time in the year prior, I would debate whether to get a good old physical journal or diary to document the coming new year. This year hubby ‘decided’ for me and gave me a leather orange diary which he received from TNT, our business partner. And like every year, I would contemplate should I use one or not.

Last year, I got myself a small little Moleskine diary which sadly, I used only to keep a record of all my passwords for things that require remembering passwords. Frankly, between the Calendar, Notes and Reminder apps in my iPhone5S and iPad Mini plus my daily blogs, there is no more need for a journal. Accessing and documenting information is always at my fingertip with hardly a stretch of my hands to my ever close-by devices. The diary however, has become an obsolete object or relic of sorts, because it is always in the handbag, office bag or at home, untouched.

But the orange TNT diary is rather beautiful looking. Maybe I will transfer all my passwords from the Moleskine to the new TNT diary. After all, I did the same the year before, transferring all these information from an earlier diary to the beautiful Moleskine.

Customer Service at Its Best

6 Jan

After I posted my Blundstone boots issue on their Facebook page in December, guess what? There was a response. They replied to my post by providing an email and request that I email to their Customer Service and a rep will be contacting me to assist with my inquiry directly.

With this positive lead, yesterday I emailed to their Customer Service to highlight my plight. Honestly, all I wanted to know is how or where I can get original soles to replace the damaged ones to salvage the boots because throwing away (the boots) was not an option.

But they provided more than a solution! They replied to my email within a few hours, explained a little bit on Hydrolysis (which was what happened to my boots) and asked me for my shoe size, confirming again the shoe style (model) and requested for a mailing address so that they can send me a spanking new pair of replacement boots! No questions asked, no investigation, no query. Super wowzer! How about that? I was ecstatic!!!

This is definitely customer service at its best for I never expected such an outcome. Hats off to you, Blundstone!!!

I received notification this morning that the parcel is being despatched today and it should arrive in two to three days’ time. I await for the arrival of my new Blundstone Style 550 eagerly. Be still my beating heart!

The Working Life

5 Jan

Soon after her exams were over, M1, together with her cousin, came to work for hubby and I at the office. Although workload has been quite easy, I managed to find things to keep them occupied.

The family insisted we assign them things to learn or keep them busy to understand the hardship of real work; even if it means cleaning the store room.

It’s been over a month already that the both of them worked for me and cleaned the store room they did. However the timing of their employment, being the year end, I have to plan their time well as a lot of projects are either completed or pushed to the new year. I shouldn’t allow the both of them to just twiddle their thumbs in the office, painting a false picture of the work environment. Nor can I have them surfing the internet, on YouTube or whatever, doing unproductive computer activity. Both are, after all, on the payroll by the hour.

So cleaning the store room was apt.

Should I Be Upset?

2 Jan

Last week, there was a cold rainy morning and I didn’t feel like wearing my sandals to work. Instead I thought a warm snug fit into my Blundstone would be nice. Been a while since I last wore them. I even envisioned myself traipsing over puddles of water and don’t have to worry about getting my toes wet.

But it was not meant to be. The left sole of my Blundstone disintegrated that morning as I stood there talking to my mother, unaware of the situation. And as I was about to leave only I was aware of the puddle of crumbs on the floor. I was mildly upset. By the time I drove to the office, the right sole disintegrated too!

The boots are hardly overused and slightly over 3 years old. A quick check on the internet resulted in many complaints about this occurring and quite common apparently. So I am not the only one. Even Russell Crowe had problems with his Blunnies. Wow.

Maybe I shouldn’t be so upset after all…

A Good Start

1 Jan

Although I was ready to start my Nora Roberts’ novel, the obsession with my games was, well, an obsession. The last two days in the office, I was alternating between popping soda bottles and rescuing bears, crushing candies and harvesting crops in between working on a few projects due in January. I persevered if you may (for my games rather than work), hoping there will be a positive outcome into the new year.

As you know, I have been agonizing over my lack of progress especially for Candy Crush but was determined to beat it. Thank goodness for my persistence because I was finally rewarded for all the games! In Farm Heroes, I progressed to Level 623 and Candy Crush Soda, to Level 112. As for Candy Crush, the one game that I feared I would be stuck forever coming into the new year, not only I finally conquered Level 751 (Woohoo!!!) and came out tops , I moved on to Level 755 and on the verge of embarking in the new chapter!

A good start to kick off the year as I sense a better 2015 ahead. Happy New Year!

2014 in review

31 Dec

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 8,200 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Back to Reading, Part 2

30 Dec

With the frustration of being stuck at Level 751 for Candy Crush, maybe I should go back to reading to regain some sense of calm and rid myself of all these frustration and despair. To make matters worse, both levels of Farm Heroes and Candy Crush Saga that I am currently at are no piece of cake either! Hrmph… is all I can say.

So it is a good thing I have gotten the latest Nora Roberts’ title, Whiskey Beach – I shall immerse myself in this book to clear my mind as I don’t fancy ushering in the New Year with all these negative feelings.

Back to reading it shall be for me!

Mixed Feelings

29 Dec

This year’s Christmas is a rather long break for us. Hubby and I opted to close the office on Boxing Day too as things are rather slow. With a four and a half day break, all we do is eat and make merry.

We managed to sneak in a golf game to reduce the guilt of eating too much. Other than this, it’s just vegetating on the couch and not much else because weather has been crappy, raining all the time, staying home was a much better option than being out. But of course there’s the candy crushing, farm crop harvesting and soda popping, all couch potato activity.

On the game front, Farm Heroes has progressed on to Level 619 and Candy Crush Soda at Level 105. Even my Zookeeper Battle, I have surpassed my 7000th battle. But Candy Crush remains status quo. I have not moved at all from Level 751 and this is creating a lot of mixed feelings in me. Agony, frustration, annoyance… Sigh.

CandyCrush48

Aarrgghhhh…

My ‘best’ attempt had 44 candies left, hardly qualifying as ‘best’ I think. Am I losing my candy crushing ability, I wonder? I just hope I don’t usher in the new year still sitting Level 751 for my Candy Crush. Double sigh…

Not Much Progress

26 Dec

With the holiday season around, I have not been playing my games much, not even golf. As far as my virtual games are concerned, I feel as though I have been stuck forever at Level 751 of Candy Crush! It is just so hard. Maybe I should go watch some YouTube posts on it for ideas. Although the other games are just as difficult, I managed to move on: am now at Level 614 in Farm Heroes and Level 101 for Candy Crush Saga.

I wonder if I can overcome 751 before the year ends?
