Done for the Day

2 May

After not much debate, Chinese food was the choice. Driving along the bumpy roads, one comment was shock as to the place we were brought to but the food did make up for the ambience.

It was authentic Chinese food. Coupled with our third bottle of whiskey, I guess we cannot complain. By 9.30pm, we were finally done for the day. I am pretty light headed at this point and an early night to turn in is very appealing. After all, tomorrow morning, we play our final game at 8.00am again. But with the traffic to fight with, an early turn in is most welcomed. The 5.30am wake up call beckons.

It’s Not Over Yet

2 May

Shopping was nyeh. There’s nothing to buy or should I say, nothing caught my fancy: the branded fakes are not my cup of tea (remember I am a brand loyalist to Salvatore Ferragamo?) nor the batiks and local handicraft. In the end, we bought some chips, peanuts, Carlsberg and Bintang beer and sat in a corner of A&W to will the time away in the mall right opposite our hotel.

The holiday is not over yet because we have another game tomorrow! And the big debate was what should we eat for dinner tonight. I think I will find out when the transport comes at 6.30pm.

Done for the Day?

2 May

By 11.30am we were done playing golf and hit the shower. Southlinks’ ladies changing room is by far the most comfortable for this trip. After lunching on soto ayam, ayam penyet and avocado juice, we were done by 2.30pm.

So what are we going to so? Done for the day? Maybe time to go shopping! And that’s what we will do…

Batam: Day 3

2 May

5.42am: Woke up before the alarm rang. I slept better than the first night. Maybe the massage helped or tiredness has kicked in or I ate too much or it was the Glenfiddich whiskey that we had with our seafood dinner. It is day 3 and today, we will play at Southlinks Country Club.

Somehow, this trip, I feel that I don’t have enough time for the food to digest. But it’s not like we’ve been eating a lot. I suspect it could be the late lunch timing. After all, with an eight o’clock tee off and five hours or so later that includes a quick shower and traveling time, lunch is around 1.30pm. Technically, being an hour ahead, my usual lunchtime of 11.30am is 3 hours later! No wonder. And before we know it, dinner time is here and eat again!
And after a short sleep, breakfast time! Eat again.

I should walk more than take the buggy…

Batam: Day 2

1 May

Palm Springs Golf & Beach Resort is beautiful but crowded on this May 1st public holiday. When we got to the club, there was a bus load of 90 people coming in to register for their games as well! Horrors!

Thankfully our flights were sorted out and we teed off on time. But we had to separate and not have 6 on the course like yesterday. The skies were looking like they were going to open up but didn’t. Today I played so much better, I must say.

The scenery at this golf club had more photographic opportunity than yesterday. Despite being so crowded, we had ample time to take pictures, silly staged ones too. The flights in front were slow and we were killing time.

After the game and a quick shower, we went for nasi padang. Very satisfying lunch. We then did some window shopping to allow the food to digest before we went for foot massages.

All in all, day two has been equally enjoyable.

Not 5.30am Like Always

1 May

I have mentioned before that 5.30am is always the time I have to wake up whenever it is a morning tee off. Well, did I wake up at 5.30am today? Not quite but I did peek at my iPhone at 3.44am, 5.38am and eventually moved at 5.51am.

Groan… The bed is too soft and the pillows were nyeh despite the hotel looking comfy and the bed inviting. Oh well. We’re on holiday and shouldn’t be complaining. Might as well get ready for breakfast because our transport will be here at seven to battle traffic to get us to Palm Springs for our 8.00am tee off.

Speaking of traffic, there’s quite a bit of cars on the island. Took us awhile from Tering Bay to get to dinner and thereafter from the restaurant to the hotel.

Batam: Day 1

30 Apr

Life is meant to be enjoyed. With friends, golf and drinks. We bought 4 bottles of whiskey for this trip. Day 1 started with an hour turned back upon arrival and a quick lunch at Tering Bay Golf & Country Club before teeing off at 12.30pm.

It was an interesting situation, with all six of us in one flight! And all teed off from the white tee box, men and women alike. It was fun. Tering can be considered easy but I fluffed a lot of shots too. Well… There’s good days and there’s better days.

The skies were threatening initially but eventually mellowed to allow us to enjoy ourselves. After the game, a quick shower and we went off for dinner.

The Chivas was the first to be consumed with the choice of Sundanese food for dinner. I’ve never had my whiskey with a straw in a milkshake glass before, so there’s always a first!

How quickly the day went by. By 9.30pm, tiredness has kicked in or maybe it’s the whiskey…

Harris Batam Center is very new and modern. I look forward to a hot shower and a good night’s rest before waking up early tomorrow for our next game at Palm Springs Country Club.

An Unexpected Escape

30 Apr

I was not supposed to go; we were not supposed to especially having just returned from Chiangmai not too long ago. But the lure of another golf outing was too strong to resist so here we are again, with the same people albeit a couple less, going off for another trip!

Wheeee……

The Energy is Sapped

24 Mar

It’s interesting to note when one goes on vacation, the level of energy is always high and charged up even though sleep is insufficient and complete rest is lacking during the whole time. The minute one gets home, a sense of the oncoming familiarity kicks in with the thought of an uninterrupted sleep ahead yet the energy is sapped.

I guess when the vacation is over and faced with going back to work, responsibilities and routine, the enthusiasm is at a different level. No wonder people always say another vacation is needed to recover from the just concluded one.

Why Not Go Shopping?

23 Mar

Since we woke up early and got done with breakfast, we might as well explore a little bit before leaving for the airport. The group also woke up early and after breakfast, we decided to take the Red Car to Chinatown.

It was fun to walk through the stalls. Weaving in and out, there were all kinds of things on display to tease our sight and it’s just our bargaining skills to make a worthy purchase if something caught our eye. The one image that caught both hubby and I was the lady who was selling duck. Put it this way, one has to look good when selling duck!

We bought several knick-knacks for the girls as always. As I got myself a knitted elephant already to add to my elephant collection, I am quite contented to just browse and admire the colors and culture. After two hours or so, we managed to meet up for brunch. Seated at the side of the street, we had fried carrot cake and fresh coconut water. Yum…

Done with the quick eat, we caught another Red Car back to the hotel and yes, it’s time to go home. A quick shower and an organized final packing, we’re going home.
