Craft Beer

6 Jun

Of late, I find myself wanting to drink beer rather than whiskey although it should be a big no-no for me given the 16/8 diet that I am on and knowing full well the after-effects of having two pints or more. But the resistance is weak especially when it comes to Kronenbourg 1664, a sweet, crisp and fruity beer.

Several weekends ago, hubby and I decided to venture into the city centre for dinner, taking the MRT instead of driving. Stopping at Bukit Bintang, we went to Isetan at Lot 10 for Japanese and then, had some craft beer within the same premise.

Amber, Elvis and Espresso

The counter offered a beer tasting platter with three choices of an amber ale, an IPA and a stout. I liked the IPA best, a mild grape fruit after-taste but didn’t like the other two as much. Looks like I am more into the fruity beer types, what with Kronenbourg and this. Hubby, on the other hand being a stout man, liked the stout best. The amber ale…. meh.

The glasses were small and just enough for a flavour experience which was nice. Would we drink these again? Maybe as a whole pint of the type I like and not necessary a tasting platter again.

Craft beer is still new for us and it takes practice to appreciate them.

Belated Treat

4 Jul

My M2 turned 15 last Thursday and I was not here to celebrate with her as I was in Ho Chi Minh City. I reached home slightly after midnight on that night and managed to wish her because she waited for my return.

Where did time go? My goodness, 15 years old. Didn’t I plan a Lego-themed birthday party for her not too long ago? Wait a minute… that was when she turned ten! My goodness, 15 years old now.

Over the weekend, we made it up to her and gave her a belated treat, starting off with a movie, ‘Finding Dory’ and a fancy Japanese dinner, followed by another movie the next day, ‘Independence Day Resurgence’. We had a good time.

My dear M2, you may be 15 and all grown up but you are still my baby. Kisses.

Not a Typical Monday

19 Jan

It wasn’t a typical Monday; we went for a concert after work. My last outing to a concert was several years ago with M1 for a Westlife performance. Yes, boy band I know but I simply adore Westlife. I made M1 go with me and not the other way around of the teenager asking the mother to accompany her.

Last night, Chicago was in town for their ‘Chicago Live in Concert’ tour. M2 calls it old folks’ music but heck! It’s live, up close and on a Monday night, what more could one ask for?

We even did a mouth watering leisurely Japanese dinner as we managed to beat the traffic jam stretch and still had time before the concert started.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The band members may be old and probably grandfather status but they were so full of energy during the two hours, it was amazing. I sang along especially when familiar songs were belted out and in the process, setback my recovery from laryngitis.

Oh well. It was worth it. Wonderful Monday night for a change.

New Blood

20 Aug

Our house guest’s name also starts with an ‘M’, so I shall call her M3. M3 comes from Fukuoka and shared with us, last night, an interesting video about the prefecture besides showering the family with gifts. Very thoughtful and polite. Both M1 and M2 were pleasantly surprised and delighted with their unexpected presents.

M3 was to sleep in the guest room and although the room was prepared for her, the mosquitoes had other plans! The new blood was a feast for the darn mozzies! A new flavor, a young delicacy unlike grandma (who uses the room whenever she sleeps over) and her old blood, poor M3 had another taste of our country. But I must say this is not the usual environment.

Tonight we shall make further reinforcements to prevent another uncomfortable experience for her.
