Ugh! It’s Back

19 Oct

Just when we thought things are okay and bearable, the haze is back! I even played golf over the weekend. Schools are ordered to be close yet again today, disrupting the schedule. While M2 is happy that she can sleep in, she lamented that she is losing out and missing the opportunity to ask her teacher on one of the subject that she needs help in preparation for the year end exam. This year, schools have closed a couple of times now because the air outside is unhealthy.

Sigh. What can we do? Many bouts of afternoon downpour has not helped to ease choked up air. As I have said before, we need wind more than rain but it is so not happening.

The Haze

5 Oct

The thick haze enveloping the country has gotten so bad that the golf game I was involved in organizing for Sunday at the Club had to be cancelled. Although all the players showed up and the Club took the decision to close the course when API readings breached unhealthy figures,  everyone was reliefed; we don’t have to be out there, as much as we enjoy the game.

We don’t know how long we have to suffer in this horribly choking condition. At this point, there isn’t any reason in postponing the game to a later date because there isn’t any wind to blow the haze away. For all you know, it will still stay on not just in our country but the whole region.

There’s too much fine particles in the air. Sigh… What we seriously need is not rain but one episode or two of strong wind to blow the haze to high heaven and be gone!

Not a blue in the sky at all

Holiday’s Over

28 Sep

After a week’s break, M2 was supposed to return to school today but school’s closed because of the haze. M1, on the other hand, started Fall term last Thursday after a lengthy summer break.

It had been a somewhat unproductive week for M2 at home, watching videos mostly. Looks like this may extend for another day. Hopefully, she goes back to school tomorrow and no more videos for her. As for M1, she did some traveling afternoon one summer session and thoroughly enjoyed her break away from campus. With Fall starting, M1 has a busy and hectic term ahead.

While one is not quite back in school and one already started classes, as far as I am concerned, the holidays are over and it’s full steam ahead with studying until the next break.

Bury the Bee, Part 1

5 Jul

After the haze cleared last week, we had some lost honey bees in the house! The poor insects must have had their homing device hampered for we had about four to five of them roaming in the girls’ bathroom, study and TV room.

Last Saturday, M2 solemnly announced, “Mummy. You must attend a memorial service.”

Shocked, I asked, “Eeeks! Who died?”

“The bee,” both chorused and pointed to an unmoving bug by their bookshelf.

So we had a quick memorial service for the little fella, and buried it at the designated pet cemetery in the garden, where all the other gone-to-heaven pets are laid to rest.

RIP little fella.
